Yes, I was doing some experiments for a change. I'm sure this was pure luck.

Just got to New beach, grabbed a bucket of wet sand for testing, it's moderattly black ,maximum depth 12CM..ON 4G GOLD RING..
at 25cm the height of the bucket it gives almost correct ID WITH RED LINE ..IRON TONE..
anyone got any tips for black sand, before I return to the NOX ,which is hitting target the same atc12cm..clear ID.
Sensitivity 20
Beach sea surf
Ground balance
Recovery 5

A "bucket" of sand (wet)........ in my experiences...... is only (partially) good for 'bobbing' the coil up-and-down with.

Sweeping the coil over AIR........ then: the bucket............... then back into free air again.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., is asking for trouble!!!

I suppose what I would like to know is: If there is no/zero metallic items in the bucket of sand (wet)........... what does the detector do/read/ID...when you DO sweep the coil over free air......... into (and over) the bucket....... and continue sweeping past the bucket....into free air again? What does the detector do? How does it respond?

Hi Tom, it's as if the manticore got hit on the head with a hammer,,it's CONFUSED, on tracking or auto ground balance it stays on 0..I have the same results at the beach,it may go up to 7 then settle on 0 or 1..
At the beach there's a lot of falsing with numbers in the high 90s...mainly 93 or 98..
The bucket is clean I put the sand in by hand, when I wave over it then into air, nothing no ID..no change in G.B..

On the target trace it does show a slightly elongated circle on the gold ring,But it is on the top of the ferrous line..,actually 1 third of it is missing above the top ferrous line..
Today I hunted with no ferrous limits an all metal,
Looking for target trace that WAS CIRCULAR on top line or ran from top to bottom in striaght line ,,ratherbthan zizaging to the right..
.i dug 6 nails an 3 old coins..unless someone has a better idea,I will hunt this way, studying trace patterns of ferrous/non ferrous..

Another thought: What happens if you take a strong (prefer: Rare Earth) magnet to this sand?

The first thing I checked was how much stuck to neodymium magnet,it was not extreem.may be 5/10%
I will do some further more precise testing this week, witha large crate,so the coil is always over sand..
I was recommended goldfield which does work in wet salt, but it seems dumbed downits almost silent, with 1,2,an 3 kocked out in discrimination. ..it gives a G.B 77...

Ok.
I much more.... recommend Beach Surf & Seawater Mode in your wet-salt/black-sand environment.
