If I was going to box a few edges it would be the entire 50 conductive line and the 01 ferrous line (between 40 and 50 conductive ). Don't box the conductive 01 line-gold can come in there as well as pewter and other low conductors. Also the deep on setting slows the CTX down-a no no when in trash/iron. You can also sweep your site say with just the folloing opened up on your screen:

Turn deep off. My experiences show as long as you have volume gain at 30, deep on will add no performace gains tonal wise. I have seen more consistent numbers on the screen though-only slightly more stable on deep targets. Don't expect to clean this site out with any one sensivity setting if there is a lot of iron; especially big iron. This is the reason for the auto -1, -2, -3 settings.

First download exchange 2 program for CTX. Read your online manual instructions when hooking up your CTX to PC. When you hook your CTX up to the net exchange program you will see I believe an exclamation point surrounded in yellow indicating your machine doesn't have all updates. I think the latest and greatest fixes your pinpoint button feature making on with one push and when you'r

D-Tone it sounds like you're progressing with your detector. Some recommendations and comments. First get a nickel, penny, dime and quarter. Lay them on the ground and sweep them with your programs. Believe it or not this is how most of them will sound in the ground even a lot of the deepies. Take a look at your volumne limit and volume gain settings. I highly recommend you put your li

Sounds like normal ops. Our attention spans are really short lived as far as being the keenest. Taking a break is a good thing and even considering different settings also. Yes, I too try and relive an old site. Find more coins, etc on the east and north parts of house structures generally. I also keep a running account of the areas that were the most productive and will revist them with alte

Here goes. You have several options from which to choose to hunt with the CTX. I would strongly recommend building your search programs with your pc.. Easier on the eyes for one thing and less wear and tear on your detector's keypad. For starters the CTX does one thing better than its predecessor the etrac. It seems the ole ferrous number stays more consistent on the CTX meaning closer t

I've read some try and run a manual GB as much as 3 numbers low to maybe eak out a little more depth, but be prepared for additional noise. I'm actually holding out for the 11" coil if it becomes available. Eleven inches is max I think for most general applications. Any bigger the weight factor starts rearing its ugly head plus depending on your ground you may not even see any d

Using stock coils on both detectors, granted the V3i is a 10dd vs 9dd on the deus. It aint even close. On my first set with 2 hex keys spaced around a dime on top of the ground. The deus sang like a canary from all directions, some directions better than others but still very diggable tone from all directions. V3i could get a tone from just one angular direction with only a slight angular var

Most people now can download video pretty fast using their PC, so most people will watch. So why not get some different folks together each using their very own detector and turn them loose at a site. With multiple cameras running and monitoring the entire episode. Then the different folks can compare different signals and do a surgical recovery for the audience. Get the supposed big dog dete

I would thank them first. I would also let them know if they or any of thier friends ever needed your help in finding a piece of lost jewelry don't hesitate to contact you. Sometimes but not all when you are called upon to try and locate a piece of jewelry and are successful this opens doors quickly. And yes one can do damage to underground conduit, wiring, and pipes if they are not caref

Does the Deus require a new ground balance if you make any detector changes after your initial balance when detecting to insure optimum performance?

If you didn't like a DFX then you probably won't like V3/V3i. To be honest I have one. It's not my personal favorite by a long shot. Machine is hard to get to run quiet a lot of times. Just bump the coil slightly(very slightly and get tone). And this is with multiple coils and the machine is in good working order. I would steer away from a new V3i. Try and buy a used one if

I don't like the earmuff style either when it's hot. I do love them when it's cold though. I bought my walkman style headphones with 1/8" jack at radio shack. I always try and keep an extra set in my bag in case I have a problem. I have even picked up a few good sets at junk stores and yard sales for a couple a bucks.

Albert, I have concentrated on 7 sites I have pounded with V3i, etrac with 10x12 sef, 6x8 sef and a little with the x-5 sunray coil using my CTX with stock coil. To add, 90 percent of my etrac time was in manual sensivity of 25 and higher if EMI and site permitted. I have not even run my CTX in manual sensivity yet, just auto. I have found coins in all of the sites but one with CTX. And here&

Why not take the batteries out and measure them when the CZ starts cutting out? It should get you close. Or take a dc power supply and hook a cz to it and hold the pinpoint button and start dialing down the voltage till it starts cutting out. That will get you spot on I would think. Used to work in my AF days.

Seriously, folks there is no best detector. There are detectors that are better at detecting certain metals/alloys, low conductors, medium conductors, high conductors, high mineralized ground, low mineralized ground, high EMI areas, low EMI areas, iron pits verus clean ground, trashy areas versus clean ground. Next comes the cost factor. Next comes the ease of operation factor. Next comes det

Coinseeker, I have a f75se and have run disc 6 monotone and I too have read Tom's diligent post on the F75 with boost how it compares to the plain ole w/o boost F75.
Running in disc 6 monotone, yes you are listening for a tone, not snaps, crackles or pops. Now if your nail bits are sounding a bit too good in disc 6 you can go to disc 7. Going to disc 7 will cause a small depth loss but ag

Albert, something else to ponder. I wonder just how many silver coins have been found with FBS versus standard VLF machines in the last 10 years? And I wonder if minelab didn't start the FBS and no other company would have pursued it, how many old coins would still exists in the old parks and such today? Consider this scenario. Imagine engineering a detector that will detect a silver dim

Well critterhunter, I believe I'm a person of sound mind and body. Granted I've only been detecting about 2 years. I did spend 22 yrs in the USAF playing around with radios, radar, inertial navigation and instruments and did receive some robust training, not only on electronics but leadership and management and fought in 3 wars. I've been retired now for 9.5 years and am 50 year

Well Critterhunter I have 2 etracs with the following coils: WOT, 13" ultimate, 10x12 sef, 2 procoils, 6x8 sef, and sunray X-5. I haven't had my CTX that long. I have been in some small places where I did find coins/silver with etrac with above coils. And these small places were hunted numerous times with etrac. I have found coinage in all of them with CTX. And some of the coins we

Back in the church yard again this evening running combine mode, ferrous coin, auto sensivity running at 27, deep on, fast off. Got a good high tone 12-44/45 showing 7 inches deep. This particular area has little/no iron. I couldn't believe how much coil span (front to back of coil-roughly 6") I was getting this good clean audio on a 1954 dime at about 6.5 inches. It's hard to

Humble pie, you're quite welcome. You know I probably should have checked the target in DE mode. My testing took over 3 hours the way it was done. It wouldn't have took near as long if not for all the possible combo settings on the V3i. I wish too I had put the 5 inch coil on the F75se and gave it a go. I don't have a lot of experience with the f75se, but my knowledge level was

Was at the church next to my house last nite using the CTX running combined mode, auto sensitivity, fast on, deep off, when I came upon this signal reading 12-34/35, with the depth showing 9 inches. It was only a 2 way hit. I had dug a nice merc dime close to this spot a year ago. I'm thinking maybe IH.
So, since this was next to my house I figured what better target to do some detector

Well, I too have a theory concerning the unmasking with the CTX. In the ferrous coin target separation, the CTX's ferrous number on a deep coin target generally reads just like it does when lying on top of the ground. Not so with etrac. And I can't be for sure on the other minlab machines because I haven't used, but have read posts indicating they do have a fluctuating ferrous n

Posts like this is what the newbies-like me- need to read and enjoy. Getting these experienced vet detectorists to open up and explain different scenarios is great. I would love to see more. A very unique great forum to say the least. Mutual respect and good taste of posters seems to run through and through.
