NASA-Tom,
I am so glad, as Harold alluded to, that "modulation" can be adjusted.
I LOVE modulated audio, so that you can get a feel for depth just by the "softness" of the tone, BUT...
I hear you on the "aging ears" caution. I will be testing the unit in my test garden ASAP, to determine which of the modulation levels will allow the best information regar

NASA-Tom,
I will listen for that "stair-step warble" you are talking about.
As for what I'm hearing in the audio, I need more time hunting the machine, and time is hard to come by right now (busy building the next batch of Deus shafts, LOL). BUT -- I'm HOPING I can hear the effect repeat, the next time I hunt. Like I said, I do have seasonal allergies, which -- for me

That is a very interesting thought. This is kind of along the lines of what I'm wondering...though I don't recall that conversation where Keith was d

Ozzie,
Yes, they are wireless...
The "polyphonic" audio is very unique. I don't know how to explain it. I am near certain that two, separate sounds are coming from the headphones, one from the right ear, and one from the left. And USUALLY, they "line up" -- the tone is the same. But, sometimes, the two are slightly different, and so you hear something like, I do

NASA-Tom,
You talked about K.I.S.S. audio, and yet at the same time there seems to be a lot of "nuance" (which of course it will take me alot of time to learn to decipher), that is sort of "piggybacked" onto the more straightforward, "simpler" audio tone. I sense that beyond the basic "beep," there will be alot there to "unpack" over time.

ozzie -- yep, it's clear a TON of thought went into how to set up that menu system to be as natural/logical/easy-to-navigate as possible. Excellent!

I received my Manticore, and of all the many things I could say, one thing to say quickly that I don't think has gotten enough attention...
WHAT A TERRIFIC MENU SYSTEM!
Incredibly easy to navigate, intuitive, nothing hidden. Excellent!

My take would be that it needs to greatly improve on the target ID, at least in my dirt.
I know NASA-Tom has said that the MDT is about "70%" as good as the Equinox, in terms of accurate VDI and tones. I would argue that in my dirt, it's nowhere near that good. I really, really struggled in park-type settings where targets of all conductivity abound. I KNOW that that is NOT t

OH MY! I'm not sure about all that, LOL, but I am certainly glad that some others here ALSO learn, from the questions that NASA-Tom answers...
Thanks, possum!

NASA-Tom,
THANK YOU for the very in-depth answer! Lots to absorb; for instance, I had no idea about the idea of "two 180s" versus "one 360." I would LOVE to hear you elaborate on this whole thing, as time permits. There is so much to be gleaned from your explanations...
As for "body rotation," you noted -- as would logically be expected -- that the more &quo

Manticore question for NASA-Tom...
I don't know how to ask this in a "concise" way, but I'll do my best.
With an FBS machine, if you ran an "open" 2-D screen (NO discrimination or iron mask applied), and set your tones to "conductive," then ALL targets would exhibit non-ferrous audio. Since your tones would "cue" off of the CO portion of th

I should think so, LOL! It's a skillset I certainly haven't honed, yet...my lack of experience in having any success when at

THANKS!
For the sake of definitions, I assume "one-way hit" includes a target that "high-tones" in one direction, but reports as iron on the return sweep (in fact, I assume that's MOST OFTEN the type of "one-way hit" that occurs, as it certainly is for me... )

Fascinating video John. Thanks for doing it. Performance on that half was impressive, given all the background EMI noise...
And what you did (noise-cancel-wise), is just what I imagine doing when I get mine, and am hunting an EMI-plagued site (based off of NASA-Tom's suggestions -- i.e. use LONG PRESS "early and often").
In your video, every time you heard "chatter&q

Sounds like you are good to go; I usually noise cancel about a foot off the ground, with coil "still," but never really thought about HOW important it was to "do it properly." In other words, I never thought ab

Gents,
Just FYI, I can build a hip-mount Excal shaft (carbon-fiber) for anyone that needs one; I'm happy to talk about design, etc... I can't do "over-unders" (never engineered that design, and the necessary parts), but can do "Florida-style" shafts or hip-mount options, no problem.
Thanks!
