I am interested as well, hope it is true, and I don't care what the update is. Minelab just needs to let us know they still remember us.

Keith,
I don't post very often but couldn't help it on this one. That just sends chills up and down my spine when I think that what you are holding in your hand was once in the hand of a soldier during the civil war. Who was he writing to, family, a girl friend, what was he feeling, did he survive the war. It represents the human side of the war. No matter what detector you found it

It shouldn't suprise anyone that Bryce prefers the explorers over the 3030, he tried the E-Trac and prefers the explorers over it as well. The differences between the E-trac (and the 3030) and the explorers, things such as the audio and straightening out the s curve made many explorer users who tried the E-trac go back to their explorers.

I use the 5X10 and never take it off of my G2. It has great seperation and like you say you can cover more ground over the 5" round coil. I think the elliptical design helps with the target separation as well. I use it in iron infested sites and it works great for me.

Thanks Keith for sharing your experience with the Deus. You experienced guys on this forum are always willing to share your unbiased information about detectors. We get to reap the rewards of your generosity. I feel like I need to buy you a steak dinner or something unless it is towards the end of the month and then it might have to be a bologna sandwich.
Thanks Keith

My G2 with the 5X10 will detect the tightly held quarters on every pass with a high tone and the VID is very close to that of a single quarter. Don't know what that is worth but thought I would report it. My E-trac is in the shop but will try it when it returns.

Thanks Keith, that was such a good teaching video. Hearing the sounds and you explaining it is a great help to us novices. Sounds like that is a very good relic machine.

Thanks Tom for your response, I wanted to make sure before I bought a new smaller coil for some really trashy sites. Thanks this is a great forum.

I have a question concerning DD coils. I know the pattern a DD coil transmits as compared to a concentric coil, it takes a slice from the front of the coil to the back. My question is about the width of a DD coil. If two DD coils were the same lenght but one was wider than the other, what difference would that make. Does the width of the coil determine the width of the slice??
Thanks for any in

Steve, I have been using Sanyo Eneloop NiMH batteries for a couple of months and they work great. I got 8 AA and a Sanyo charger for around 30.00. The only thing I would have done different is pay a llittle extra and get the charger that holds 8 batteries, mine only holds 4.

Keith,
That is a nice mod to the At-Pro, I may have sold mine to quick, just hated using it because of the ergonomics and small display size. Looking back, I think it was the best detector I have ever hated.

What an excellent thread, thanks to all who have contributed. I to have an unstanitized test garden where I know there are many nails, foil, and siding slivers. I now see the need for a sanitized one. Thanks for all the good info. -- Randy

I hesitated to post anything at this point because I have only had the At Pro for a couple of weeks but here is my deal. I planted a test garden 2 years ago along the backside of my house right where everything falls off the roof. I have nails, the old 1 inch sqaure top roofing nails, old pipe fittings, slivers of siding, and my yard is full of waded up pieces of burnt tin foil about 4 inches dow

Gman, After seeing this post from Markg I had to go re-read that myself and it is very good information. There is a very long post called "Rcpt Ack of F75 LTD Prototype" just a few lines down. Look on page 4 for Tom's explanation on choosing the best frequency to aid in EMI. Randy.

Tom,
I think that is the answer. Most of the nails and wire ect. that are in my yard fall into the 3 to 5 inch range. I also have small pieces of aluminum foil that are wadded up and look burned all over the yard for some reason and they also fall into the 3 to 5 inch range. That does make sense. Thanks Tom for the response, I really appreciate it. Randy

I have a test garden with several coins and have 3 dimes at about 8 inches in ground that has not been sanitized, in fact it contains lots of nails etc. With my F75 LTD using both the stock coil and the 5"DD running Bp sens 80 disc at 5 or basically any other setting I can hit one of the dimes consistantly and the other 2 are very hard to hit. I also had an explorer xs and had the about the

Thanks Tom for responding on this one, that makes good sense that EMI enters through the coil. I have even tried wrapping the entire contol box with layers of foil, just for the fun of it, and didn't help my EMI issues at all. When you have good areas to hunt and EMI is big problem you'll try just about anything. Thanks Randy

There is a long discussion on another forum about cures for EMI with the "F" series detectors. One of the methods being talked about is using the "Snap-Together Ferrite Choke Core" from Radio Shack and attaching it to coil cable. Another is using some EMI shielding tape ect. Maybe Tom could shed some light on this subject.

I also had a couple of other issues with the LTD I discussed with Felix. Sometimes the fe3o4 meter will max out and stay maxed out in an area where is shouldn't and I will have to do a factory reset to make it go back to normal. Also, sometimes when doing a fast grab ground balance it will make a constant high tone no matter where you do it, like you are pinpointing over a big piece of metal

I talked to Felix at Fisher and he said send it in. Maybe it just needs to be calibrated?? I will let you know how it turns out. Randy
