price, light weight, versatility....and it's a minelab...just seeing the videos of their design/research team working in their labs is very impressive....

I like having the holes as I can quickly lock into the 3rd hole (for example) and have my proper length. seems like a hastle to
adjust each time without the hole, but heck what do I know. You could send me one of the prototypes and I'll let you know what I think.

hit an 8.3g 14k rose gold ring that hit as a strong zinc-like signal, then decided to check back a few feet to a foil juice top signal that I passed on (I don't dig those) and wow it was a 14k white gold women's ring (4.3g) (same size as the other) with 3 diamonds, .8 carat (or there-a-bouts) and 2 .33 carat, yowza. these were near some trash cans (big plastic ones).

thanks Geotech, Minelab does seem to have a stable team of very sophisticated folks working on their MF designs, I have a lot more respect for what they've done after what you've said. Good luck on the new MF design.

I successfully applied the EQ update using my Macbook and yes, kudos to Minelab for getting out both the update and having mac support!
curious if the move from 1.5.0 to 1.7.5 represents many iterations in the firmware, ie many versions tested first prior to deciding on this being the update.
cheers, going out to a trashy park in a couple hours to test the update with my new 6" coil.

on a High Sierra Backpacking trip years ago was surprised by an angry rattler and forced to jump off the trail.
Angry and hungry I killed it and ate it. Tasted like chicken, lol.

this discussion is pretty 'meh' imho....who cares what marketing says....I've been giving the 800 a try and have found
quite a few coins I missed with several other detectors, minelab's, fisher's, etc....it works pretty darn well and
heck, have you considered the price in comparsion to other machines?
oh, forgot, thanks to the OP for a good post on the 6" coil,

hey Des, I think the vibrating handle is akin to dowsing and is really your mind picking something up and your body (hand) vibrates along with it!
it's the culmination of mind over matter and your many years in the industry. good review, and can't believe you'd spend 3 days at a 'dead' site, incredible patience there that I don't have. cheers (I pretty much use my 8

don't know what's up with this....
no wobble at all with my 800...
I use the 5th hole and I'm 5' 11" tall....I do like keeping it fairly close and it has a nice feel to it...
cheers...

just use it and judge for yourself folks, too much thought being put into various potential/actual testing/comparos....
I'm using it (ex etrac/ctx user) and it's very, very good irregardless of the low-cost/light-weight advantage.....
The 600 is the absolute detector deal of this century, imho, lol, all kidding aside....
