an unknown item I found yesterday - please see down 2 posts for the pics

Since some of you folks have seen everything under the sun come out of the ground, I was hoping to post a few pictures of a button-sized item I found yesterday. Can someone tell me how to do so?

Thanks.

Thanks Keith for the help with this. Hopefully this works. The object is metal. It is obviously damaged. My first thought is maybe a button. There is a nice 5 point star on what I will call the top. The blown up images are attempting to show the star. It weighs 2.01 grams. It feels heavier than aluminum for its size. The G2 gives me an ID of 79 to 82 depending on which side is facing it when air testing. Any guesses or ideas?

Hey rod...

not sure of the era but the star on the nose could be a design for expansion...

it has really mushroomed back so what could of been a series of slits on the nose of the bulletsonce it impacted it spread open to form more of a star design...the bullet went in almost head on..maybe even passing through soft tissue without hitting bone..

Civil war shot bullets mushroom at times like that ...they are usually either soft ground impact or a clean pass through tissue to create that shape..sometimes softer wood can create that mushroom shape to...

Ive picked a few of those bullets up before. Lead tends to turn that whiteish color when it oxidizes. Its been there awhile.

Thanks also, Dew. I will put it in my lead bucket stash and save for the big turn-in payoff smiling smiley
