Not really Tom. I have no visibility on their non Euroteam development progress or plans. I am simply commenting on the state of their market stance right now. How they got here is pretty clear from public information on which I based my summary. The cancellation of development of Mosca and CZX is old news,
To have any insight on what they are up to in El Paso, you would have to ask folks who

I find nothing much to complain about in any previous post in this thread. FTP is doing the best that can with the resources they have available.
Their engineering staff, while sizable has to support the whole process of new product evolution from product conception, electronic and software design, mechanical design, procurement engineering, production line process engineering, plus support o

The only one I have seen publicly announced is the Bounty Hunter Time Ranger Pro.
It seems to be the Fisher F-19 re-packaged (and likely re-priced) as a Bounty Hunter machine.
Is this something NEW or is it another example of “old wine in new skins”? I guess it depends on your point of view. New tech - no. New performance in the field - maybe, but not likely. So what’s new?

Here’s an old video showing a Deepstar, a GPX5000, a TDI and an early prototype of the Manta. Much time has passed and the Manta’s transformation into the AQ has included lots of improvements in sensitivity. Large men’s gold ring - 8 grams. The deepstar is the same circuit as the Aquastar (although Tom’s has been modified).

Gee. That sure took a long time.
Seriously, when some business is betting piles of their own money (no angel investors here) on a new product, can you blame them for not blabbing about every bump on the road they hit on the way to El Droado???

I was informed that the decision on the battery was made for the reasons cited above. Shipping devices with high powered lithium packs is very restrictive and world wide distribution of the AQ is anticipated. The testing and certification of a lithium battery for the AQ was cost prohibitive considering the niche nature of the Beach detector market. What will evolve, given that the battery pack is

Let me know your flight details - I’ll pick you up at the airport if you fly to Williams/Gateway - if you fly to Sky Harbor, you will have to make your own way to Gold Canyon. There’s a decent motel about a mile from my house. I’d put you up, but my cat doesn’t allow possums in the house!

When I get time - to spend more than the 30 minutes or so I have spent with the AQ - then PERHAPS - I will have something to say about how it performs, what I have learned about its operating characteristics, etc. But precisely because I am in Arizona, much of that would be pointless, Actully, most of my time has been spent trying to take decent pictures of it so that Alexandre who can do good s

No, Tom, you are right - visual displays to show THE AUDIO! Not processed signals to drive the video, but video to illustrate and demonstrate the raw audio signal!

Our friend Keith Southern is fascinated by the audio interface of detectors. I think it is fair to say that he is totally convinced - that at least now - audio far leads visual feedback from the detector to the operator.
Numbers or bars flashing across the screen are produced by processes that do far more manipulation of the signal outputted by the detectors interaction with the ground and po

Possum, I have no results to report - busy with other stuff like making a living selling real estate in Gold Canyon AZ - call me if you come this way!
Seriously, I am not a beach hunter with thousands of hours of experience and my comments beyond that the AQ I have is apparently (according to the designer - Alexandre) up to spec. This based on a hour and a half skype video call with him last w

Aaron, thanks for your comments - here’s my response
I am NOT a spokesperson for FTP, although I have high hopes of becoming a dealer (for the Impulse line mainly/only). As far as FTP owing or not owing Tom something, I have no information about his involvement with the AQ other than what has been publicly disclosed here regarding Carl Moreland’s visit to Tom last year and using Tom’s Aquastar

I have no knowledge of or influence in whatever FTP’s plans are for testing by Tom.
If Tom or anyone else received a PROTOTYPE to test, I would expect that he would be bound by a non-disclosure agreement to keep his observations confidential. This would apply even AFTER product release - to whatever extent FTP required. The reason for this is simple, issues raised during prototype testing of

OK, one last time - this is not a test unit. It was built on the factory production line with factory labor and processes. I have no obligation to report my satisfaction or lack thereof to anyone. Keith was talking about test hardware, often built by engineeering and he recovered it under NDA with an obligation to furnish his report.
Now that we have both had a back and forth shot at self just

One thing specifically mentioned by Tim was various international certifications for all the materials used in its construction. Until all this is complete, no international shipment can take place and the results may required substitution of different bit parts in the mechanical package. This alone would preclude full scale production and product launch - especially since the Manta’s homeland -

You must be really excited about this crusade you have launched against me - I can’t type fast enough to outrun your successive posts.
Your last one was useful however - here is some text from the link you provided.

“Tell the truth”??? Exactly what lie are you accusing me of TNSS.
I stated that it was “a production version”. I did not state that it was in full production. As Carl has explained, it is not. I was well aware of that when I agreed to buy it. As the article I linked to above makes clear, pilot production involves

Pilot run hardware IS production hardware, Carl said it was “not in FULL production.
Here’s some background for anyone who hasn’t been through production qualification.

Well, all the comments positive and otherwise are fine, but this thing has to WORK for me - thinking of sending my AQ back. I live on a golf course and it didn’t pick up any of these.
Happy New Year,
and it IS a joke - In the 10 minutes since I posted this I have had two offers to buy it - it’s not for sale.

The guiding principle of the AQ’s development has been that deeper is better in all cases - IF the depth is accompanied by great silence.
I have posted before that the AQ prototype I had for a few days in 2018 hit a nickel at 17 - 18 inches in wet black sand at San Diego and that my Equinox managed 7 - 8 inches. What I didn’t mention was that got essentially the same results in dry sand in a d

Here’s some recent fun from LE.JAG - the project’s chief tester for 5 years or so - in a UK forum. I have made a couple of edits so that the fact that he writes in French and then posts the Google Translate output - sometimes misleading - sometimes alarming!

Also, the factory prototypes used the F75 rod assembly.
My production unit uses the CZ 21 rods mated with the F-75 handle - greatest metal detector handle of all time - thank you Dave Johnson!!
