I'm looking forward to trying that salt setting on a military site I have located next to a dried up lake. The Deus struggles with all the alkaline salts at this site, the Equinox does much better. It will be a good month though before I can get there with all the snow we have.

My soil depending on the area, GB is between 835 and 890 haven't seen 900's yet but I haven't really run 18 KHz much.
On the beaches I hunt depending on the area is between 635 and I've seen as high as 806.
I'll comment on what I'm seeing so far against PI units. I've owned a bunch of PI's but have sold my infinium, surfmaster and recently TDI, curren

TNSS-I believe you about the Deus, I haven't read all the posts in this forum that's for sure. I know in my soil stock Deus programs don't get but 3 inches and mask all kinds of good targets. But your findings are about the same as mine, the Equinox and Tarsacci do appear to unmask better in bad soil. I'll always have my Deus as well. Thanks for the videos.

TNSS your soil is similar to mine and what I found with the Deus is you have to open it up to get it to perform in hot soil. It's noisy but I run a negative disc sometimes down to -6.4 most of the time around -3 though, negative ground balance and silencer at -1.In hot soil the ground starts to consume the target faster than mild soil so any use of disc or other settings that is going to all

My soil is pretty mineralized. Run the HF coil in 14 KHz but jump it up to 28 if there's lots of iron. Run Deus fast and change reactivity to 2.5, sensitivity to 92, Audio to 4, disc -3, GB 2 points below what the ground is reading no lower than 84 though, Silencer to -1, TX power 2, I also like to set it up in 5 tones really 4 because you have no disc. Don't knock out 97 and up because

I agree that turning threshold down loses you depth faster that sensitivity, at least that has been my experience. Also agree that getting the salt balance correct is very important because once you get it right you can push the limit on the other settings.

I think I like 12 KHz so far but have only used the others a few times. 12 seems like a good all around setting. I've found that using black sand when you don't need it hinders depth so unless you need to use it, it's best to leave it off.
Mixed mode is what I prefer at the moment. I really like having that tone on the end that alerts you to a good target, All metal would be fi

3 hour water hunt today, wind was from the north and cold. stayed in knee deep water because waves coming in were mid-thigh deep.Took the Equinox along just to try long enough to see if it ran quieter than the Tarsacci in my mega salt environment. Could not get the Equinox quiet (just as I remembered the last time I tried it). Running beach 2 sensitivity all the way down to 12, Recovery maxed out

Some other observations, maybe other users have noticed this as well.
A reduction in sensitivity doesn't appear to change the depth of the detector but it does quiet it down in noisy ground and modulates the audio. Volume can be increased to compensate for the modulation on deeper targets.
When in mixed mode and the threshold is lowered it appears the AM part of the signal is shortened

Update on my test- I initially ran blacksand on because of all the magnetic material in my soil. So I tried turning blacksand off and was surprised at the change in numbers. My dimes that were iding at 26 dropped to around 22. Still high but closer to what they should read. The signal also seemed stronger with blacksand off. I also tried salt mode on and it killed the depth. So now I'm kind

Cabin fever-I don't hunt old parks so I can't say for sure and maybe I misspoke when I said it wasn't designed for park hunting. But my understanding is the Tarsacci is targeted at beach hunters and bad dirt hunters.
I would assume you could use it to sniff out deep silver as long as there is not excessive junk.

Tom- I can offer a little data based on the targets in my test garden, they have been buried a few years. Probably be similar to a plowed field situation.
As a relic and beach hunter I dig everything that is non-ferrous, I just want to know if it's iron or not. So in my test garden I have two main items (I have others as well) I use to compare detectors. My dirt is pretty bad so I have a

Just got back from a 4 hour hunt at the Great Salt Lake. Took a buddy with me and he was running his GPX, took mine along as well but I'll just talk about the Tarsacci finds.
1st I just wanted to put something to rest that I saw on another forum. Apparently some believe it is illegal to metal detect the Great Salt Lake, NOT TRUE. The location of the old Saltair Resort is off limits, but w

Tom-Yes after some of the crap was cleaned off the ring it appears it is GOLD! low K like 8 or 9. I'll put in the tumbler later and post a pic.
TNSS- I ran 12 KHz most of the hunt, 18 KHz is a little too noisy in all the salt.
Gary- a good medium sweep speed seems to work best with the Tarsacci on the deeper targets, too slow and nothing, too fast the same. shallow targets are more for

Made it out to the Great Salt Lake beaches today for about 4 hours. This time I went to the beach adjacent to the marina where tourists visit and swim. This beach gets hammered with metal detectors all summer long so what is left is deeper.
The beaches here are very mineralized and salty (3 times the ocean) so very tough conditions for most detectors, I hunted the water for about an hour and f

I did some more testing last night in my test garden. I think I can safely say that the Tarsacci out performs all my other VLF machines when it comes to depth and target ID in my soil.
Some things I noticed
1- in bad soil activating black sand mode improves performance, it's not just for the beach.
2- Disc mode is more prone to falsing, this was also noted by TNSS
3-The more I use mixe

Tom...
The targets were marked a few days ago and the PI was with me today to do a head to head test. I'm not expecting PI performance but I was a little concerned that I was unable to at least get the 10 inch nickel when I've heard about 14 inch nickels detected by testers. My biggest concern was the salinity setting which I couldn't figure out. I'm sure that will change n

I made it to the beach today. Now let me give some background about my beaches. I live in Utah, so no ocean beaches, but we do have saltwater beaches on the Great Salt Lake. I have hunted many Southern California beaches as well, usually twice a year, so I do understand the challenges with the black sand in those areas.
The Great Salt Lake is 3 times saltier than the ocean and it has many area

Got my unit today and the first thing I did was hook up the z-lynk system to it, works great. Headphones that came with the unit are nice and clear not muffled like most cheap headphones. I went out in the yard to my test garden where I have a 4, 5 and 6 inch dime buried. My dirt is real bad and most VLF's struggle to hit the 6 inch dime. The Tarsacci nailed it no problem. I also have a .58

So if I'm understanding mixed mode correctly, you're always going to hear everything regardless of what the disc setting is. You'll get all 3 tones from the machine if disc is set at -30 or +30, is that correct?

I should get my unit either today or tomorrow. In the next two weeks I plan on testing it at a saltwater beach, relic hunting in soil almost as bad as Culpeper and the Arizona gold fields. It's going to take some time to learn the unit but I think I'll be able to at least get a feel for what it will do. I mainly use a TDI or GPX in these areas so it will be interesting to see how it com

After watching those videos I'm a little confused about some of the tones as well. I can see why the detector is not meant for carpets of nails. I'm liking the all metal mode sounds the best but from what I gather that's going to require looking at the numbers on the screen all the time. Disc mode appears too quiet, that could change with headphones though. I'm totally confuse

Hopefully I'll have one of these machines this week. I mainly beach and relic hunt, rarely ever go to parks and such The Tarsacci should be a good addition to the detector arsenal I already have. My impression of the machine so far is that it's going to be a niche detector. Sounds like it won't be much use in a park, first because of the trash and second because nobody should be di
