Sunray FX1 Probe acting erratic
April 30, 2016 11:55PM
Bought a used Sunray probe FX1 the other day for my F75 LTD2 ....put it to the test today and have a big chatter problem....the probe works fine if you don't pick it up.... lay it on the ground, wave a ring or a coin near it and works like it should ...soon as you pick up the probe or touch the cable from the probe to the switch box it starts to chatter like mad...gota be a problem with the cable.
Can it be fixed or is it toast?

Thanks Bob.

If you can get in touch with anyone at Sunray it can be fixed. I have heard people say that they have not been able to reach them via phone or email. I jut bought a X-1 that had a new probe and wire put on it last year in April. I have also heard they are completely through as far as making probes or coils. I hope this isn't true!

Sounds like a bad ground.

Make sure all cable connections are tight.

Thanks Tom,

I've checked the solder connections at the box, they all look fine...it may be in the cable it's self.
What I have noticed if you turn down the sensitivity to 40 or 50 it seems to less erratic and you can touch the cable without it chattering like mad?
Not sure whats going on there....

Cheers Bob

Hi Bob,,,,It sounds and acts like you have a broken shield wire on the cable itself ....It would probably be the end that takes the most bending....You would have to cut the cable and redo it, you can't visibly see an internal break on the cable itself.....JJ

Edit: added an s to sound....LoL....

Hi Jimmy,

Yes I think your right...not sure what end to tackle...the one with the probe would be the tough one...one to the box is no problem...I have a solder stationsmiling smiley
Got a email back from Sunray...they will repair it for $110.00 US plus shipping and insurance...guess they replace the probe and cable.
got $110.00 into it now...you always take a chance buying used gearsmiling smiley

Cheers Bob
