Utah Soil Conditions question for Tom

Tom, I read your article on the 1962 dirt strata for pull tabs and also the article on soil density and was wondering , do you have any experience or comments on the soil here in Utah? If not , how can I reach my own conclusions, what do you recommend? What visual cues can I look for aside from digging everything and noting it's depth. I know your findings were for the deep south but was just curious.

There's only one (painful & time-consuming) way to find out. You can shorten the process just by recovering about a dozen pull-tabs and you will have a 'average' of approx where they end. Your accuracy will be around 80% with this test. More tab recoveries..... and the accuracy will increase..... but the extra efforts exerted may not be worth the few extra percent gain in accuracy. Remember.... different sites will produce different results. Sample each site!
