Question. for who ever knows the answer... What is the reason the 10.5" Fisher coil has a eliptical center coil? Is there advantage over a round one like the smaller coils use?

You will notice the 'receive' coil on the 8" coil............and the 'receive' coil on the 10'5" coil..... are both 5" wide. This is by no accident. One of the intent(s) for the larger 10.5" coil.......is to still provide fairly good adjacent target separation characteristics.......of which it does perform. Yes......it could have been built with the receive coil as round/concentric..........but the elliptical receive coil does give above-average adjacent target separation performance.

Thanx Tom; I knew there had to be a good reason. So generally speaking the smaller the receive coil in relation to the TX coil the better trash seperation, correct?? If so what are the down sides? Smaller area of detection at depth? Duke

Exactly. Yet............do not underestimate the depth of that 10.5" coil on a CZ.
