Congrats. I arrived home from work late last night / this morning and was browsing thru my youtube subs when you posted your $5 gold coin video. Wow, it was great to watch. Thanks for posting it. I have to say that it woke me up a bit. Brought me to thinking about my favorite outings over the years and that was a pleasant mental road trip back in time.

Mike: I knew a guy who found a gold coin, at a site south of San Jose, in the 1980s. It was in a muddy farm field. So when he pulled up the coin, it was caked with mud. He did the instinctive thing and rubbed to see what the date was. Well, guess what ? Later, when he rinsed it off , got home, and studied it under magnification, you could see the "scritch scritch scritch" where his thumb had been rubbing with the abrasive gritty mud. Doh! You can bet he learned his lesson.

I am somehow just now finding this thread!! I actually found the video on YouTube first and didn't even pay attention to what channel the video was on. I was coming here to post a link to it and go figure...haha

I do have to say though...you about drove me bonkers "beepin" those targets to many times in the video. Even my wife hollered from one of the other rooms in the house "Just dig it already!!". lol

Thanks! We have been scouring that area, pretty interesting area. For some odd reason I noticed a pattern, after about 20 coins found: 1850's-1860's coins, then a 30 year gap and then coins start again at the turn of the century (early 1900's coins).

That coin is truly a great find. When I see a find like that it causes me to make comparisons. It would be hard to come up with a find that compares to that.

When I found my first silver Barber quarter ( a 1909 0 ) I did some research and was glad to see it was low mintage and sought after because it is in great condition. The supply and demand for for it would let it bring a good price .

It does not compare to your coin even though it has some of the same things going for it.

Everyone wants to find a gold coin and that is special by itself.
The rarity of your find is seldom seen.
The condition of your coin is amazing as seen in the shield and wing tips.

Very Nice! You sure got a heck of a spot there.
Had a Old Stagecoach stop by Me but got developed before it could be Hit hard. Some Guy did managed a 4 Silver dollar cache before though. But still was not Hit hard.
