Need Help to ID Threaded Lead Plug...Mid 1800's Military Site
December 18, 2012 06:45PM
I found this threaded lead plug yesterday and would like to find out what it is. It appears that it would only take two rotations for it to seat into place and is solid with no holes through it. This came from the same spot as Steveg's relics.

The bullet was found nearby and is for size reference. Any ideas???
Thanks,
Jim

Thanks Keith. I posted this on several forums and have had few replies. However, I did get a response from a fellow who had found one very similar to mine. He posted it but never got any replies. His appears to be a bit longer, slightly smaller in diameter, and has a "T" handle. It was made with a brass insert on the bottom...mine is solid lead.

yeah I see there was a handle on the top of your lead object....T-Shaped...

I would think it was some sort of plug maybe for later on whiskey barrels like 1880's or so till the tap was put in it would of been used instead of a wooden plug of the type used in earlier year's......or it's off an early tractor ..like a Massey Furguson or something from the 20's....used as a radiator plug....
just guesses bu probably a plug of some sort ..

seems now that I might have dug 1 of those one time years back....
