Not only CC but also one sided headphones. Pays to be able to hear whats around you urban or rural. Alone on a night beach with no external awareness/hearing? Not me.

Hey Ray

I'd have shot one of them in the foot 1st just to watch him yell/scream and jump around in pain and when the other ran away - shot him in the axx!

That or stuck my 36" solid steel lesche in one of their skulls just to see the reaction on the others face!

Hahaha, I hear that Wayne. I hit a total ghetto park in Stockton. Usually early a.m. is just bums n hookers. I'm keeping an eye out, and see this little Mexican dude running....sucker has my blower. I jumped in my truck and chased after him to where I saw him disapear by some RR tracks. I grabbed a shovel out of my truck, and pretty soon I noticed a pile of cardboard moving. So I kicked it hard, and wake up a bum....he just looked at me holding my shovel ready to clobber him, lol. I despise thieves. Ray

The freedom we once had is just about gone it is getting too hard for people to deal with the stress of being broke and if you shot someone the way the law can work you could be put away for just protecting yourself. Some of us don't learn till it happens to us. Life is a game of chance but we can be smart and just be safe and do the smart thing and don;t take chances.

Wow, thanks for this post. Due to my work schedule, my opportunities to hunt are sometimes at night. I have never carried while detecting, but looks like it might not be such a bad idea...

Lowboy = "the voice of reason"... what a downer! lol

Just messin with ya lowboy :-)

You speak the truth about the "law/s" though - that's the messed up thing about it - they're designed to protect the damn criminals more than the victims of the perpetrator (that needs to change)...

Would advise to hunt with a buddy to watch each others back.

Being a retired cop I know there are many varied opinions rel carrying. So do be careful.

Last year while hunting near a river I saw a fellow swinging coming towards me and had metal on his hip. Turned out he was a retired N.Y. trooper and stopped to talk. He understood the ramifications of shooting or killing someone but here was his answer...I would just throw them in the river he said with a smile and we resumed both swinging...

Different states, different self defense laws. Know your laws, not the hearsay. I spent time with a few lawyers making very sure of the truth.

Here in TN we just have a carry permit. It does not have to be concealed. You can carry openly. Some people do. I have my permit but I don't carry openly. My logic is like this...if I were gonna do something bad, and I saw somebody with a gun on their hip, guess who I'm taking down first.... Ding ding....exactly why I don't openly carry. I don't want to make myself a target. When they find out that I have one, it is gonna be a complete surprise and be too late for them. I have had my handgun permit since I was 21 and that has been 10 yrs ago. In that time, I have had only one person to be able to tell that I even had a gun. He approached me and privately asked me why I had a handgun at an organized relic hunt...and in talking, I found out he was a U.S Marshall. So I guess his training was pretty good.

Mine goes with me everywhere too. Tennessee ranks on up the list for manufacturing and distribution of meth...so there are a lot of lowlifes in this area that would kill you for a dollar to get more of that junk.

Daniel --

In Oklahoma, the story is much the same as TN -- we can open carry here as well -- open or concealed, either way. But, I don't open carry, for some of the same reasons you stated. Also like TN, we here are way up near the top of meth-producing states...so there's plenty of reason to be ready to defend yourself.

I hope and pray I NEVER have to draw my weapon, in any circumstance, ever. But -- if I, or any of my family members, are ever in enough danger that such an action becomes necessary, I will absolutely do so, and if I end up having legal issues to deal with as a result, so be it. There is NO WAY I'd let the fear of legal issues deter me from carrying. I'd much rather have the ability to defend myself, or my family, and then have to answer for my actions later, as opposed to NOT carrying due to fear of legal issues, and then find myself in a situation where self defense became necessary and I was unarmed...

I grew up in Columbus , Ga where they respect the second amendment. Its actually much the same in the rural foothill region in Kalifornia where I live now. Unfortunately, kalifornia is ruled by leftist, and they are doing everything they can to destroy our right to bear arms. Yall got it right in the south.

Regarding the issue of using a firearm to protect yourself and the possible legal expenses that would follow.......reminds me of a saying amongst LEOs.....it is better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

You could start a neighborhood watch.

What could possibly go wrong??
Re: be very careful night hunting.......

It's a psychological fact of human nature that we tend to blame the victim because it makes us feel like it wouldn't happen to us.

So here goes...

Common sense would probably keep most of us from hunting a public place late at night, especially unarmed and solo.

Under no circumstances would most of us let a ghetto looking dude use our detector. Or detect around ghetto looking guys, especially by ourselves at night.

And very few of us would ever say we were ever in collage. But I guess if a couple homeboys cut you up "for real", you might be in collage...

We all know about 2 legged critters but lots of four legged ones come out after it gets dark not to mention the bugs.

Again if you have to carry a gun know your laws and be prepared to use if needed. Carried a gun for 30 years in my job and honestly don't care to in civilian life so be careful where you hunt and good luck in your decisions as certainly lots to consider...

Always go back to my fishing days and still see the well stacked blond with metal on her hip causing a stir from the males looking at the female candy...

We have a City about 15 miles away where its an ordinance you must have a Firearm and ammunition for it in your house...It was enacted in 1982....

Since 1982 that City has the lowest crime rate for its size in the Country...

A few people choose to carry openly on the streets with no problem's

in the last 31 years I've never heard of someone shooting someone else in the city by robbery, or drive by's, muggin's..ETC...

Excellent point.

Another point, proving the other side of the issue:

Concealed carry has been ILLEGAL in Chicago...

Enough said...

Keith, seems like cities with a law such as that, the people are much more polite and civil to each other...

Can only dream of such a thing in kalifornia!! Gotta love the south! If it wasn't for the unbelievable natural wonders, not to mention the prospecting , detecting and fishing here, I would have moved back to Georgia a looong time ago. Well, screw the humidity too, lol.

Keith.......... there's two towns in Texas with the exact same ordinance............. and exact same resultant.

Washington D.C. has a 'zero guns policy'.......... yet; they have one of the highest 'gun crimes' in the Nation.

Can we learn from one OR the other circumstances? (((( Or both )))).

Exactly! I live near and often detect Stockton, Ca...look up the crime stats there! Its infamous around here, people from the Bay area are scared to death of Stockton. Ray

Heres a Video of the Town.

Kennesaw Ga..

I grew up in the Area...Lots of fond memories of this town...

I still relic hunt this area alot....Anyone ever heard of the battle of Kennesaw Mtn!!

Beautiuful place...the town of Kennesaw sits just North East of the Mtn...I grew up in the town Just south west of the Foot of the Mtn Called Marietta...very historical area to live in...No other place like it ...At least that I have seen...But Ive never been too many places...LOL!!

My earliest memories are Civil War heritage everywhere I went!!!!State Pride, Southern pride, American pride all as one,,,,,Even tought to us in schools...

Lots of Pride in these towns still today..even to this day the graveyards of the north and south on Veterans day are heavily decorated...

One of my treasured memories was when a relic hunter found a Confederate soldier just west of the Town of Marietta.....He was a Reb by his C.S.A. buckle and Reb button's....The whole area shut down on a Saturday while His remains was moved from his resting spot to the Confederate cemetary in downtown Marietta...parades police escorts nice coffin, hearse , bag pipes playing...Re-Enactors setting up with him all night till his remains was removed so He would not be alone...

lots of people lining the streets watching him go to his final resting place ,,,

Gotta love this area..

Keith

Neat Keith! How far away are you from Bremen and Carollton? I spent a summer up there when I was 15...caught a lot of catfish, got chased by a bull and met a nice country girl.
