Harold, I am not sure what most people do when testing a detector. But with my test I can get a very good "dig me" signal up to 9.5"
I can get a signal up to 11" but it will roll to low tone. This is with the 8" coil, all metal.
The test target was a clad dime.

I said this about others testing because I have had detectors before that I would test and others would say it is deeper that what I would.
