Ok - some of you on this site are pros at documenting your hunts and detectors with video. Do have any tips - can you point me and some previous posts or videos on equipment and techniques. Really want to capture some of my T2 vs MXT stuff - thanks

Be Honest
Be Yourself

Its alot of work...especially live digs...I have equipment Im also trying out yet I usually end up with my cell phone recording...

Windy days and the audio will be unhearable...

If you have to edit its time consuming..I just record and put mistakes and flaws and all in..Ill never win a oscar for my contributions just trying to relay info I may think is pertinent ...but you can make them quite extravagant if you want...

You need some way i have found to see what your filming...because you want the action to stay in the field of view so at times a fixed mount can be looking the wrong way unless you are aware of the angles and adjust...

I'll tell you want I want...a pair of glasses that record..Ive seen them, not sure of the quality but they would be alwasy recording where you look...

Great info. Kenny. I just purchased that exact goose neck mount for my gopro, it's nice to see it in action. I like the shovel design as well for beaches. I never did see what kind of recorder you are using. Are you running 1080/60 in those videos?

Keith, I really like the pivot head recording glasses approach as well. But, unfortunately, they only record for about an hour with the limited battery and memory currently available. I'm looking forward to improved performance of those areas in future models. With the Wasabi 2800 mAh battery pack I recently purchased for my hero 3 black, and a 64GB memory card, I have an easy four hour record time in 1080p if needed.

Thanks Keith - if you ever met me you would know I am honest and I am myself. Really do not know any other way. Will just try my Cell phone at first do the best I can. I will look at Kenny's goose neck and something to hold the phone. Not sure I am ready to edit yet so what I share may be pretty raw.

Again thanks.

I hand hold my camera and I do a lot of editing..don't waste time digging while making the video it takes to much time...when you know the target is in reach then turn on the camera and show us the find in the hole..keep the videos short but edit them so you can make a few. I like to do a lot of hunts and edit them into a few videos...

I use a Olympus TG-310 waterproof camera. 1280x720 x 24 frames. I use Powerdirector 11 for editing. I use a program called Handbrake to compress the video before I upload.
I have been deleting scenes as I screw them up in the field. This way my editing doesn't take long. I also do not have any fancy 30 second intro's or graphics.

PivotHead Sunglasses are the best out right now for recording videos. It takes a bit to get use to looking in the right direction when looking down. Because we shift our eyes and not our head sometimes. But they are easy to use, and are great quality. They just feel a little bulky.

I love the concept but my concern with the pivot head glasses is the record time. I know actual footage of the end product is well within limits of the pivot head's capabilities. But if I am out hunting for a few hours I don't want to have to worry about my battery going dead. Just an observation via reading their specs. on recording capacity and battery life, I've never used them.

Went to a small field near my hose - took the T2 - the first 2 inches were mush the rest was solid ice. Was not able to get to anything. A lot was showing 6 to 8 inches down when pinpointing but I had the small 5 inch coil so I figured it was less - still could not reach them. I was close enough for my Propointer to see it but darn was that ground hard. I should a brought the shovel. I think I will let the sun work on this ground a little more. I am off Monday sounds like a good day to giver her a go. I to get some real digs so I can start to train my brain to what the detector is telling me. Right now it is like watching a foreign film without the subtitles - I kind of think I know whats going on but I am still un sure.

Don't worry about doing all that fancy graphics and intro for your videos. Your vids will get better and better as you go.

I will be happy if it is in focus, and not bouncing around like crazy - still cool today. May hit that Old Golf Course maybe it will not be so frozen. - but if it is no problem the Fisker planter spade will handle it with easy. smiling smiley

Don't be too critical on your first video. Just get something on the tube. You'll learn a ton getting your 1st vid posted.

If the ground is frozen make an air test video. You've kept us waiting too long! I'm also waiting for you to make me a samich!
PS: You won't need any equipment to hold your camera since your sister will be with you. Just have her do the taping. Every hunter want's a camera operator. You already have one.... Plus you can tape her finds too.

Got some video today - trying to get it pieced together was shot on my Note 4 image wise looks pretty good - camera person needs fired though.

First question. Trying to edit on my phone if that fails will export to my iPad and try there. Ok good question what do you pros use to edit. - I have note 4, MacBook, iPad, and windows 7 so should be able to work with any and all sugestions.

Second question - I have a YouTube account in tricks on uploading to youtube?

Last question - how do I post a YouTube link on Tom's sight?

Most people use Windows movie maker. Some use Powerdirector 11 as I do also. Really anything will do. You can also do a mobile upload as well. Youtube has an editor as well but I have never used it. There are some tricks in uploading to yt faster but for your first videos will only complicate things. We can help you later. It will be better to help you further once the vid is uploaded. Like linking, annotations and all that other crap.....

@Bryannagirl,

Take a look at "VideoPad" (http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/index.html). It is easy to use (intuitive) and lightweight (the setup file is under 5 Mb). They have a free and trial version.
You can get the free version here: [www.nchsoftware.com]

System Requirements (from their website)

Windows XP/Vista, Windows 7 and 8
Works on Mac Intel OS X 10.4.4 and above
iPad version runs on iOS 4.3 or higher
Android version runs on 2.3.3 or higher

------------

There also is Powerdirector as khouse already mentioned. It uses some (hardware) acceleration techniques. If your PC has an Intel processor with "Quick Sync" support, you will be able to convert videos much faster.

The only reason I use Cybelink Powerdirector is my original JVC Everio recorded in .mov format. At the time Windows Movie Maker didn't support that format. So I had to use Powerdirector. Now I've just gotten used to it so I keep using it. But I do believe WMM supports .mov now?

Powerdirector 13 was rated #1 for 2014, moderately priced as well. How friendly is it for beginners, Kenny?

Never used Movie Maker (my cam is also recording .mov files). I tried a few programs, but Powerdirector was one of the fastest (on my relatively slow machine). "EDIUS Pro 7" was even faster (and had way more to offer), but it costs x10 and crashed every time. I think PD is the right choice at this point.
