Calibrating the 1280x / DP Diver ........ need ferrite pot core info
February 13, 2016 01:50AM
Allegedly, the 1280x has similar internals to the older yellow model DetectorPro Diver. I have a diver and want to calibrate the unit. The instructions say I need a ferrite pot core to complete the process; however, the instructions (link below) do not specify the type/size/model of ferrite pot. Does it matter what ferrite pot I use?

Here is a link to the instructions [www.treasurelinx.com]

Thanks, -David

Just grab one off a computer accessory

You'll also find these on computer mother boards, power supplies etc, quarter size is good enough

Or even a small piece of ferrite rod

Much appreciated!!!! Looking at your user name, I'm guessing you are the same Sven that wrote the original article?

BTW, currently the detector is air testing a new dime at 5-6". I'm hoping the calibration will help, but do you have any other suggestions?

Best Regards,

-David

Yes, that's me.
It should hit 9" air testing with just a click response.
If you can't calibrate it correctly, not much more you can do for it but, send it back to Gary at DP.
It may have other issues.............

I thought the 1280x was a dive version of the 1266x?

The 1280x from what I understand is the detector the DP used for its design.
You will find many other detectors on the market that copied the 1280x circuitry as well.
A few have done experiments and have found coils are swappable between all the brands.
It has been said by reputable people that Fisher licensed the 1280x circuitry to others.
I can't verify that, maybe NASA Tom knows.

When I had a 1280x and two DP Divers, 1 Wader, they functioned identically. I sold the 1280x and kept the Divers
as they were more compact. A nice concept, having the electronics in the headphones....unless your the type of person to accidentally
drop your headphones or handle them carelessly.
