Got the new MX Sport in today - Thanks Whites.

Whites sent me a new MX Sport to replace my defective one. I can say this one seems to be working good. The modulation works like it should. It may just be me but the pinpoint seems to be a bit stronger too.

Congrats, Yeah the PP was one of the major issues way back because they only worked so far but now they have set it so it can go just as deep as the detector can see, I think the early ones could only pin point between 4 to 6 inches but now they are maxed out,

let us know how you get on, good luck.

Looking forward to your videos and remarks.

Do you know the manufacturing date?

Not sure of the manufacture date. I would assume it is newer as whites sent it to me.

Knowing the very latest work at the factory I wish they shipped factory direct to customers. Dealers and distro have little confidence in distro stock but I know there are several buyers on the verge of getting one if they knew they didnt have to gamble. Nice vids Bill. That rosey was super deep! May have to rethink the approach there.

I can't imagine a dealer not being smart enough to simply call White's with the serial number to verify the upgrades.

Forgive me for sounding like a jerk. But I can't help but ask the question...why purpose does a dealer serve these days I always thought a dealer was the middle person between the company and the customer. They handle the questions, and do what they can to serve their customers...warranty work, etc. Yet here lately with metal detectors, once the dealer makes the sale to the customer, the customer is on their own to fend for themselves. I go back to the CTX 3030 I bought a few weeks ago. I gave a decent chunk of change for the thing and it was basically dead out of the box. It wasn't something that went bad over time of use and it wasn't something that I broke. It came to me that way. When I called the dealer I bought it from...a place I have bought MANY detectors and accessories from...I was told "Sorry to hear that...you might can call Minelab and see what they can do". Really? I guess this is why I'm not a detector dealer. Had I been the dealer in that situation, I would have been the one on the phone right away, getting something done for my customer. If I had another machine of the same kind in stock, I would make sure that one worked, then send it to them as a replacement and then deal with the bad one on my own. If I didn't have one in stock, I would be calling my distributor and having them drop ship one the next day to the customer and then deal with the bad one when it came to me. I wouldn't just say "Sorry to hear...call them yourself, you are on your own".

I noticed the same thing with the Whites dealers on the MX Sport. A buddy of mine bought one that was supposed to be the latest ones. It had the screen corner cracks. He called the dealer right away and was basically told the same thing I was about the Minelab...that it was a Whites warranty issue and they would send the shipping label and fix it. He threw a stink about it and said he wasn't going that route...he was coming back to the store and swapping it out for one that did not have cracks. That's the only reason why he got one that way too.

I guess I see it like vehicles. If you buy a new one from a dealer and wreck it...that's on you to have it fixed. But if you buy one and it has something break while under warranty or a factory recall...it is the dealer who handles it for the company. Not the customer dealing directly with the company.

If a dealer is nothing more than a 3rd party to take money...then do away with them and just have factory direct sales. Especially if the customer is having to do all the leg work anyway.

A good reason not to go via the dealer is so you can get the wheels in motion quicker where as if the dealer sorts it out,

Somewhere in this list is the time wasted by the dealer having to contact the company
1) you take you machine in to him
2) the next day he posts it back to the company
3) they send him a replacement
4) he then has to contact you so you can pick it up,

If you contact the company your self they most likely the company will post you out a new machine the same day and send you a returns label at the same time which cuts down your down time.

John,

Not quite. Maybe back in the horse drawn carriage days that's how it would have went. But not in the day of the cell phone and super fast shipping.

If the dealer had a replacement unit in stock, they could just swap it out and then deal with the bad one on their own time. The customer would be up and running again not have to fool with all that behind the scenes stuff.

If they didn't have one in stock, they just pick up the phone and call the distributor or company, and have THEM ship direct to the customer that same day, or at the latest, the next day. That would bypass most of your hypothetical list. It's no more complicated than going to eBay or a online store and clicking Buy it Now and them shipping it the same day directly to you.

I don't know about that, But another way of looking at would be That only the owner knows what is going on with the machine and can describe the issues, Plus the personal touch from the company works wonders.

I know when I have and issue with something I want to Talk to the Engineer not the Oily Rag.
Re: Got the new MX Sport in today - Thanks Whites.
November 26, 2016 06:45PM
I on the other hand, don't care why it broke, who programmed it, or what day it was made on, and or if they suddenly changed suppliers for components and that is where the root of all the problems came from. All I care about is that I have a defective unit and either want it fixed or preferably replaced as quickly as possible. The company/distributor/dealers can handle all the drama and behind the scenes stuff. If a dealer can't do anymore than what some are doing...what purpose are they serving at all? Just have customers deal directly with the factory when buying...like we are having to with warranty work.

Oh Lord,... what a sorry state of modern aged, cardboard box salesman!
They just know the drivel or the press conference material the company sold them.
Blurt it out to the customer,... charge him money and hand him a cardboard box.

That is how I sell a toy,... batteries included :-)

Just sold a chainsaw to a couple who walked into the shop 15 minutes before closing time.
Opened the box, installed chain and bar, added oil, added fuel, checked operation, checked safety features.
And then went through the whole motion again so they knew how to operate it.
Finally put the shop sticker on it,...

45 minutes after closing time I switched off the lights!

My shop sticker is a matter of pride, a job well done, a happy customer.
If you got any questions, problems, warranties,... you talk to me.
If your machine throws a fit without any reason whatsoever during warranty,... you get a replacement.

A machine dead in the water in the hands of a customer who has just opened the box.

THE PLAIN SIMPLE UTTER SHAME OF IT!!

You can't blame the manufacturer, no matter how strict the quality control,... shipping and storage can kill anything.

Your dealer is the first and only line of defence!!
If they sell cardboard boxes, they should charge for cardboard boxes.

Yep, with something like Chainsaws the man at the shop is by far the best man for the Job

I use to Cut timber for a living so I know my way around a Good Saw,, In fact although I love detecting, My Chainsaw was my Pride and Joy. Lol,

I must admit I might be buying one of the New Huskys or another 660, grinning smileythumbs down

See THAT is how a dealer should be like! I bought a commercial Bad Boy mower from a dealer locally several years ago. They took their time explaining everything to me about it and delivered it to the house and went over more things there when they dropped it off. I thought he was going to mow the yard for me while he was there. Hahah. They even filled the gas tank for me with 100% ethanol free gas. When it came time to get a new weed trimmer, guess where I went to and bought my Husqvarna from.

I guess I'm stupid then because I tried another MXS for myself after Whites said all the upgrades were done. I called my distributor to order mine and I asked if it was from old stock. They told me the factory truck just left and I would get one off of that shipment which Whites had told them they were all good. Guess what? My SAT went to 6 and it was a crap machine.

If consumers want to pay full retail and order strait from the factory then that's OK with me.

Also I don't think Whites can tell us which upgrades have been completed with a serial number.

I agree with you. I was a White's-Garrett dealer in the early 1980s. it would have been unimaginable for me to tell a recent customer to call the company. Of course, I had a store front and most models on display. I'm guessing profit margins are shrinking and most dealers are part time and don't keep multiple units of any detector on hand.

when I called whites the first thing Mary asked me was did I contact the dealer I bought it from. she said he should be able to swap it out for me. I told her I did but he did not have any more in stock. I guess if the dealer has more in stock you can have him swap it out for you with another one.
Re: Got the new MX Sport in today - Thanks Whites.

How bad you beat the dealer down on price could affect the quality of service after the sale I suspect. If I have to pay full retail price I am going to expect better service than if I buy at a few bucks over dealers cost.
Re: Got the new MX Sport in today - Thanks Whites.
November 27, 2016 02:53AM
If I could sell all my machines at full retail there would be enough to service the customer better. When the small low volume dealer matches or cuts the bigger guys the profit is gone. No small dealer is getting rich selling detectors unless it's a $2000 long range machine - but that's another story.......

None of this matter, The point is Whites has Ask folks to contact them directly in order to get a fast Resolve for the Customer,

I except they had a rough start,, But they put it out there making it easy for people to get a Resolve, Giving YOU the Customer the Personal Touch, Instead of refusing to deal with people and leaving it up to the Dealers to sort out,

The problems that the machine had is one thing and they were sorted months ago. they have Stood by the Customer and they have done what they said they would do and they have Fixed the Machine in the Process.,

Detectors are a very sad business model.
Happy customer can go on for years and only need batteries.

Something that needs service, fuel, oil, parts that wear out, etc. is much better, the customers keep coming back.
I once sold fishing tackle as a side show, biggest earner was bait :-)

Companies need to keep re-inventing themselves and push the technical limits in order to keep our interest.
Some are better at it than others.

Yeah about that weather thing...

Oh, one thing to note apparently they come with the cheaper starlite headphones now instead of the ultralites. I dont know when they made the change. Non-issue for me but glad I know what to advertise or tell customers.

Correct, I am not.

MX Sport used to come with these.

Apparently now it comes with these.

Ultralites are nice quality phones, just a really large head fit.

Starlites are adequate but short cord.

I dont think most people expect much from headphones thrown in with detectors anyway. Just something I noticed changed.
