Must be doing something right
January 10, 2017 01:36AM
Been getting a lot of messages and phone calls,,,from folks asking for advice and actual detector operation.

One person even offered to fly me to his residence to show how and explain.

I like helping folks.

Makes me feel good inside.

Forget to say,,,I have been encouraging these folks,,many of them not members here to join.

One gent 77 years old,,been detecting since 68,,,would love to hear some of his war stories.

Detectorist (John) must be froze up still in Mo,,,,,looks like Jan thaw a coming,,,,then we should here from him.

I've not missed a minute sleep giving detector away,,,best decision and helped someone out.

Got to get this Signum nailed down more--- intriguing detector.

Need to put some time in on GPX as well,,,at least so I don't look like a dunce if I hunt with Thunderdome and Tom41.

Too many detectors and not enough time,,,,retired too,,,I wonder how working folks cope.

I used to not like to read very much,,,even when I went to school,,,numbers was my game......but detectors and reading about them and people's experiences,,,,I read boatloads.

Sorta used to the technical jargon,,,being an old avionics trooper in USAF.

I haven't forgot about you Daniel.

I was a bit worried though,,when you were talking about not having a site or 2 to hunt,,,,having hard time getting access.

When I come,,,I want a site with bad dirt,,,like your bullet field,,,will bring a few detectors,,,so we can test and use some,,namely,,Deus both 11 and 9" coils,,Signum,,GPX,,Blisstool V6.

The Signum may give some interesting results.

I have stock 7kh coil,,,and a monster 3khz coil,,,the monster coil came with the unit,,,not my choosing exactly,,,,but since I got it,,,why not give it a try in some bad dirt,,just to see.

Personally,,,I think this forum,,for whatever reason,,,has been in last so many years,,,slanted more toward higher freq detectors.

Need more talk about 3-7 kHz detectors,,or detectors that can run these lower freqs coils.

The bullet fields are always a go; well until they put a subdivision on it. So far, all they have done to it is had it surveyed.

My main thing with the new sites is that I have just gotten tired of going to the same old places. These forums, YouTube, and social media have been a big influence to me to get me out and trying to find better stuff. In my old sites, I may hunt all day and do good to find one drop bullet. These people out there are all the time finding fresh sites and stuff a lot better than bullets. That's what I want to get into again. Instead of just talking about how the good ole days were, I want to get out there and make THESE the good ole days.

I hear you Daniel.

With the ways spots can be researched nowadays,,good spots getting harder and harder to find.

And most folks don't tell secrets either.

May have to go out of box thinking route,,,to find some good places.

Just imagine 20 more years from now,,,,things will get real tough.

Our old forum member ncwayne has been tearing up the relics on a newer site he is on. He don't post on the forum here anymore, but just in the last couple weeks he has found several CS buttons....two Cast Is, a CSA or two, and I think a NC Sunburst button or two too. Plus a whole lot of other goodies. Those old goats from west TN are still digging plates too...they have dug 200+ plates in their life time so far. I am amazed at what they find in those areas. My trouble ain't finding the sites. My trouble is that I seem to have lost my silver tongue for getting permission on sites. I don't get it man. I can pull up, start a conversation with them. Even have them invite me into their house and offer me supper or coffee, drinks, etc...and they still turn me down to let me metal detect. I mean how do you feel comfortable with a complete stranger to let them come in your house, and offer you something to eat and drink, but don't trust them enough to fill holes and not to let livestock out of the fences? Makes absolutely no sense to me.

Maybe the folks think,,if they let you hunt,,,it will be a recurring thing.

Maybe try for one shot good deals,,,,and maybe after you show them something you found,,,they have interest,,,and maybe let you go back for second, third time etc.
I would definitely take the wife along,,,,could be a deal maker with her along.

Do you take any finds from previous hunts along,,,,to show them what you are after???

Some folks,,are just plum ignorant,,,and some think metal detecting is really a farce of sorts.

Just throwing out some ideas,,,might work,,may not either.

Even mentioning what a detector cost to them,,,may shed light on the seriousness of metal detecting.

Oh,,and to talk about finding something like a 1916d merc dime,,,,probably onecould probably get some fair loot for even a rougher one,,,,I usually tell landowners,,,I will show them what I found,,,if any real significant value,,,will share.

I just like to detect,,period.

Just telling the story of a worthy find is enough for me really,

You won't find a trophy find case in my house...lol
Or any deer heads either.
