Golden Mask 5+ Auto EMI Mitigation?
June 20, 2017 05:56PM
I'm not entirely sure what it will (or can) do to mitigate EMI, but I was looking through the GM5+ manual and this caught my attention:

When you turn on the detector, the coil must be at
least 50 cm (20”) high from the ground, and far from
any metal objects. After the software loads, the detec
-
tor performs a RESET of the electronics to pair the detector with the coil, according to the
surrounding temperature and electromagnetic fields (if any).

I like that it has NINE side-bands on their Frequency Shift, perhaps the "reset" selects the best side-band on the selected main frequency?

I need to test one of these smiling smiley

I was test it GM5+ few weeks. For me this machine do not perform enough. In heavy trash area detector doesn't convert signals right. We get audio smear issue. And you can't separate items... I don't like it. Audio is low quality if you compare to other brands.

No, you still have to select it yourself.
GM5+ is a brilliant relic machine, fast and separates real well, just be sure you buy from a dealer with warranty.

I have a GM5 headed my way. I had to give one a try myself.

Cal,

I think it's more of a dynamic impedance match. You also have to do the reset if/when you change freqs.
If the machine gets noisy, and seems to be drifting with temperatur changes, a quick reset calms it right down.

I've got 2, and it's quickly becoming one of my favorite machines.
In fact, as I type this, I'm charging one up for a hunt tonight.

They're pretty high gain, separates really well, and can go really deep even with low sens numbers. The spectrum VDI is wonderful info.
I also like the quality and selection of their coils. (The 10" round coil is on it right now, but the 12" is probably my favorite...when I can use it.)

I've had nothing but great luck with mine, and the company in general.
It's different from the standard T2 rehash machines, for sure...but if you put in the time to get to know it, I suspect you'll like it, too.

mike

Thanks everyone. I'm tempted to try one out, I like their 9"X10" DD coil. Most of my sites benefit from a smaller vs larger sized coil, this seems like a good SEF design on a slightly smaller then stock sized coil. Waiting for them to have a sale and then I'll try one smiling smiley

Well I got the Golden Mask 5 in today. I took it out to my 10" dime and nickel test spot using the stock 9" coil @ 18 kHz it nails both of them loud and clear I then switched to 8 kHz and I could barely get a signal so 18 kHz is deeper. It has a super fast recovery speed and targets pinpoint off the front tip of the coil like a AT-PRO. I also got a 12" coil with it and I didn't see little if any depth increase over the 9" coil. I believe in good soil this machine would be deeper than a Etrac but would out perform it for sure in iron. The one I have is just the Golden Mask 5 not the plus so if the plus has added depth and power I would definitely want a shovel. I also wanted to mention that the ID on these are awesome on my 10" coins it id'ed them accurately but the scale didn't go all the way to the top of the screen so it kind of let's you know if a target is deep or not. I plan on taking it on a real world hunt Saturday morning and I will report back.

The 5+ is a definite improvement on depth with it's power box, finds tiny objects and hits well on coins sitting on edge,

Damn, I'm temped also, on the 'official' sellers webside with 5% discount, 465 euros + 70 shipping to Canada with 9x10 coil (best all-around choice?)

would be about $800 or so Canadian + import fees and 13% (ouch) tax.....

I'll be looking for more feedback as this might be able to find some oldies the minelab FBS machines missed?

I have new Spyder 12 inches coil for sale if you want.
Re: Golden Mask 5+ Auto EMI Mitigation?

It wasn't as deep in my soil as the Rutus, but it gave a more confident dig signal and decent ID. My GM5+ was also an early one that had software issues and had to be replaced, and i had other breakages with the tele shaft and the headphones. Good machine but i was fed up with the down time so i sold it on.
I had no issues with the original gm5 though.

Cool. Just curious why you didn't get the 5+? What do you think of the graph, time wasting gimmick or time saving analysis tool?

Shipped direct from the manufacturer to California it comes out to 536.26 EUR =$597.505USD. To be honest, that's not bad for what it appears to offer.

with the USD being so strong, seems to be a real bargain....
I think I was looking at a different site...will try again...

Cal the screen is pretty accurate. I actually have this machine on loan. In my dirt which is like Keith Southern's a machine that gets a 10" dime is pretty amazing.

That's pretty darn good. I saw Ziggy's 5+ videos and he tested the 5 vs 5+ on the same target ID test (in his plastic bin), the 5+ was deeper, and on the fringe targets the 5 could detect, the 5+ audio/TID was stronger.

I'm very tempted to order one, I wish they'd drop the price a bit or have a discount larger then 5% to defray the shipping cost to the US smiling smiley

Yes, shipping is quite high... sad smiley
But if you do end up ordering one, you'll be amazed at how fast they can get it to you from Bulgaria.
About 3 working days on some of my purchases.

I remember ordering (on the same day) from them, and something from a dealer in a neighboring state.
The Bulgarian shipment beat the Kansas shipment by 2 or 3 days.

Ok here's my low down on the Golden Mask 5 after a couple of hunts it's a deep seeking machine that unmasks targets quite well the downside to it is if you're hunting a area with a lot of non ferrous trash your neck will get sore looking at the screen constantly. In really old homesites that have little to no aluminum trash it will fit your needs but in a trashy park forget about it.

I was talk about it.

Shelton was your experience the same as mine?
Re: Golden Mask 5+ Auto EMI Mitigation?
June 27, 2017 12:13PM
The same. In industrial area with tones of trash you can't work with it.

Audio not perform well and you get smearing issue. Is not to easy find clear signal and pinpoint it.

I was try even with lower gain. Some tiny silver coins lock with iron area... trash smear ID. Not for dig anyway.

If you dig for relics in clean forest that is ok. But I'm working with fields full of industrial trashes... this is kind of ocean winking smiley After WWII they move all rubble from destroyed capital city of Poland - Warsaw.
Re: Golden Mask 5+ Auto EMI Mitigation?

Yeah that sounds like a hellish spot to hunt Shelton. I actually liked the display but in trash it's a nightmare.
Re: Golden Mask 5+ Auto EMI Mitigation?

Clean patches here only at forest winking smiley All machines give up here.
Re: Golden Mask 5+ Auto EMI Mitigation?
June 27, 2017 05:28PM
Thanks for the feedback, unfortunately I don't hunt a lot of clean areas, many are iron infested old home sites, ghost towns, mining camps, etc., and you need something to get through the iron. I'll stick with the Impact for now smiling smiley

Cal if you decide to get one go with the 5 plus because it has the number vdi which would make things a lot easier in trash.

Definitely will go for the GM5+ after seeing Ziggy's video comparison with it and the GM5.

I'm still thinking about getting one, the only way to really know how it works is to try one eye rolling smiley
