How to tell the diffference between a F75 & F5 coil?
December 25, 2017 12:50AM
I'm thinking about buying this coil, but don't know what detector it's for. Is there a way to differentiate a F75 coil from a F5 coil? If so, how?

This link may help.

Do you have an electrical multimeter, that can measure resistance (ohms)?
The F75 coil measures:
Pin 1 to Pin2: 36 Ohms
Pin 3 to Pin 4: 1.8 Ohms
Pin 5 not connected to any other pin.

Trouble is, the F5 coil may have similar specs, I'll try and find them.

Here is some info in this link.
Pimento has commented in.

Might help.
Look like the pin 1-2 reading is the give away. On small coil 40 or greater ohms wise,,Likely =F5 compatible.
On 5x10 and 7x11" coil Greek coil resistance between pins 1-2 greater than50 ohms,,F75 lower like approx 36 ohms.

If you do find the F5 specs please post them. Hopefully they are different from the F75. Thanks

Probably the factory can tell you which one it is by the serial number that's on the search coil. Give them a call.

Planned on doing that. Thanks

"If you do find the F5 specs please post them."

Sodbuster has found the thread on here I was thinking of, about Ivan's mystery coil. Thanks SB. There's also a thread or two over on Geotech1, but the info contained will be the same.
So unless you've access to an Inductance meter, there's no other easy way of distinguishing them.

...................and someone should have a good butt kicking for that. Sometimes people are so smart that they miss the obvious. Good commonsense is in short supply.

I've often wondered why coils don't say on them what machine they are supposed to work with, or at least have some sort of code that you can look up. Some do say it but many don't, especially aftermarket coils.

You buy a coil online but there's no way to tell if they sent you the right one. It just doesn't make sense. It's such an easy thing for them to do.

Your welcome Pimento.

I have a bud up the road from me who has F5.
But he does not have the small coil.
I may check his coil anyway and post here in this thread.
