Looking for Marko Racer 2 settings
May 18, 2018 11:55AM
Just got a Makro Racer 2 (thanks Dan-Pa). Hoping to give it a quick try after work today and was wondering some settings to start off with for coins & jewelry. Thanks! Steve

Steve I mainly used mine for relic type hunting, but the R2 has been a great detector for me, paid for itself ten fold with some rare key date coins found (1916D merc and an 1860S seated quarter, 1859S seated half), couple of gold rings, tokens, lots of silver, buttons, etc.

I mainly detected in 3-tone mode, disc dropped down to 1-2, sensitivity as high as I could run it, 98 if possible (I like it sparky) and iron audio turned down to 1-2. You can move your tone breaks around if desired for whatever your hunting. I moved my audio to the highest freq on the 3rd tone so targets in that bin would stand out.

The first time I took it out, I went to one of Tom's pounded Spanish adobe sites and pulled a Phoenix button out of the thick of the iron where he said it was hunted out. It was my main detector for a San Francisco park demo a couple of summers ago, and it did pretty well there too.

Oh and if you have the OOR coil or NEL Snake coil, you're in for a treat at trashy or iron ridden sites thumbs down

Brian-------The Racer 2 did so well for you with those fantastic finds!-----Why did you get rid of it?---Or do you still have it?----If you still have it, do you still use it--or are you now using just the E800 & MK?---A lot of questions!!----I'm just curious, inquiring minds wanna know & all that!grinning smiley-----------Del

Del I still have it. It still works, it's not obsolete, she can still make the finds BUT for me, it's become redundant with the Makro Kruzer being able to do everything it can do and more. I had two R2's, one was a brand spanking new backup detector that I ended up giving a new home, along with ole Red and the Impact (aside from the ergonomics/weight, I loved the Impact).

I'm down to a F75 LTD2, R2, MK and EQ800. The EQ800 currently has only one coil available, a big ole round 11" DD , and I only have two coils for my MK (which will cover 100% of the sites I'll use it at). I have quite a few great coils for the R2 (OOR, NEL Snake, factory 10", etc), so it stays for now, but to be honest, for the type of sites I detect, the MK and EQ will cover any type of site I'll ever detect from surf and turf, to iron infested relic sites, and tough mineralized ground. For me the MK and EQ are the perfect dynamic duo....what I need now is simple....more detecting time eye popping smiley

Del you in the market for a "slightly used" F75 LTD2?

HH,
Brian

You'll have to let me know what you think abut that 7" coil, I've read some conflicting reports about it. To be honest, with my detecting time being what it is these days, I just need to keep it simple so when I am out, I can enjoy my time detecting and hopefully get my coil over the goods thumbs down
