Looking hard at your neighbor’s Christmas decorations - figuring out how to make some that look pretty much like them - maybe even better - admirable.

Breaking into his house and stealing his wiring diagram - not so nice and good for hard time in the slammer.

Let’s all agree that while imitation is the sincerest form of flattery - that theft of intellectual property - copyrights - patents, etc. is a criminal offense.

Discovery Electronics (using their own patents) made the two-box TM-800 for Whites (same as Discovery TF-900) with the Whites name plate. Later Whites ended the agreement with Discovery.....afterward Whites themselves produced the TM-808 with minor changes like using the C battery cartridge (instead of 8 AA batteries). . Afterward Discovery began producing the same machine relabeled the Discovery TF-900. The Whites TM-808 went went through more changes as time went on, dropping the Cave Mode and fast/slow Retune....adding Signal Balance. Instead of improving the design, it was worse....way different than the original TM-800. .Did Whites purchase the rights to the wiring diagram and then tweak it??? Im positive Whites did everything legal. Technology is expanded on an existing foundation. Patents expire and/or can be sold. Back to China....are they not subject to patent laws???

Even 60 Minutes has done pieces on China's massive counterfeiting and intellectual property theft over the years. I remember a piece a while back where they were talking with a Christmas decorations company. The guy stated that patent or no patent, you get one season to yourself for anything new. The next season the market will be flooded with Chinese look alikes. Patents make no difference.

Saw another episode where a Electric Wind Turbine company was talking about their experience in dealing with the Chinese and how they stole his controller (despite contractual obligations that said they would respect the intellectual property rights) and started their own company to compete against him here in the United States.

We fight the Chinese today on two fronts. North Korea and in the Market Place.

If you have a choice between China and US, my motto is buy USA for any and everything.

The thing is, human nature always leans to the least complicated of routes. There is a trick to snaring squirrels....lean a long stick against a tree and set the snare. The squirrel will always go up the ramp versus climbing a tree from ground-up.
