Well I got in touch with his daughter on Facebook and she told me what is going on with Dan. Here's her reply she sent me.

Dad fell 3 months ago and he has had to start dialysis so he has been in and out of the hospital and nursing homes. He loved the forums and was very knowledgeable. He loved metal detecting!!! Have you ever talked to him on the phone?

I hate to hear that. I know He is diabetic and that is a nasty disease.
I was pre-diabetic till I lost 40lbs now my glucose level is good. A lot of overweight people walking around with it who find out too late. I suggest everyone get a test kit and strips as they are cheap at Walmart. Unless you are one of those tuff guys who don't care. I have a cousin like that, now they have to take off his foot.

Some diabetics like many of those with type 1 deal with it for life. A truly nasty disease.

Many type 2 are as you said just unhealthy over weight people. I know I was one too.

You can make your life much better with discipline. Nobody will do it for you.

Those that can do something about it owe it to themselves, loved ones and those that can't do anything about it.

Dan is one of my homeboys....from PA.

I never met him, but he seems like a great guy on the forum.

I wish him well.
