Iron infested sites
April 22, 2020 04:01PM
The MDT is Good in iron infested sites. It finds targets peeking through iron so can my T2 but not as good as the MDT. These were surface targets. Targets a few inches in the ground MDT may have issues with infested sites. I haven't dug up any targets in the ground more than a couple of inches.

Remember the MDT is not the AQ.

You’re right Denny, MDT can see peek through iron very well. I found this out last year, ‘‘its extremely fast and I’m finding it detects deeper in an iron laced site over an Equinox or Deus in my soil. I’m not impressed with the Equinox in thick iron, definitely use an MDT in an iron infested site before an Equinox it’ll see conductive targets much deeper when hunting in thick iron. Deus is slightly better with surface targets in thick iron, but those deeper masked signals the Deus can’t get them it’s beyond reach due to masking. This is were the MDT will benefit over all else, something about the MDT allows the signal to peek and penetrate down deep between iron in certain conditions. Not always but more often than all others, my two grab and swing iron laced models are a Deus and MDT. Deus for surface and MDT for deep iron masked targets.

Recently, Dug a super deep sleigh bell with the MDT in extremely thick iron and very poor soil laced with farming chemicals. MDT users need to learn the MDT language, it’s a remarkable piece of equipment. It’s not for everyone, only for those with patience and have poor soil. If your soil is good, most likely you’ll go back to your old machine.

My settings on this particular day at the iron laced site digging the sleigh bell were Sensitivity 9/Threshold 0/Blacksand off/Salt off/12 kHz/Mix mode/. I usually run 18 kHz but on this particular day and was experimenting with 12 kHz, but I still prefer and use 18 khz feel it gives me an edge on separation and allows those tiny thin silver coin signals to come In stronger. Another neat find was an 1848O 1/2 dime, wasn’t too deep but a nice find for sore eyes that too was an MDT score. Denny was there on this particular day, Denny is a very good hunter I lucked out Denny would have probably found the 1/2 dime had my coil not gone over it. Wish it would have been Denny finding the 1/2 dime, always good to see friends dig nice finds.

Tarsacci is a good detector for iron laced sites, user needs to have patience and learn its language.

See you soon Denny, Although I can’t detect for the remainder year can still fly my drones for research.

HH, Paul

Hello Tom,

I’m glad to see other MDT users experiencing good separation in iron sites, I experienced this last year but it took learning the Tarsacci language. Now, MDT and Deus are my grab and go units for iron laced sites.

Unfortunately, My detecting days are over for this year. As of this week, preparing to get both knees replaced one after the other. On the positive side, Denny will have open range at a local site surely to give up additional pieces of old silver. I’ll be a spectator, from the sidelines and enjoy seeing him pull out old history. On the positive side, I can fly high tech drones there it’s a very hilly forestry type of terrain with challenging banks and curves to maneuver air quads.

Thanks for helping get the MDT in our hands,
HH, Paul

Hello Aaron,

I can always copy and paste this over there Kim the near future, it’s really nothing just something to share to help encourage a few MDT users maybe struggling with learning the MDT language. Dennys doing extremely well with his MDT, that’s all he uses now.

Keep up the good work Aaron,
Paul

Wow Paul! Getting both knees replaced within 6 months? Man, I wish you a speedy recovery! Sorry to see one of our valued TARSACCI team members on the disabled list! In the mean time, keep Denny on the path, don’t forget to shoot us some drone pics once in awhile!

Thanks Tom and Aaron,

I’ll be alright, Although I won’t be metal detecting until next year will have plenty of time to repair equipment during this off time. Maybe even sell equipment I’m not using anymore, no excuse now will have plenty of free time.

Good luck and thanks again,
Paul

Tom(nasa-Tom),

Please move this thread to the On The Horizon thread. My mistake for clicking the new topic icon. I was meaning to post on the Horizon thread.

Thanks Tom

Denny. I can not do this...…… but...… you can.,.,.,.,.,.,.., or the web-master can.
It is probably easier to just simply continue this conversation/thread on the ON THE HORIZON thread anyway!

I will continue to hunt the old settlement for targets as you heal. Start at the orchard by school the next time I'm there.

Thank you David,

A few of others from California had knee surgery or about to have knee replacement surgery, I’m sure their are others. I talked with Mike recently a forum member, over the phone he just had one knee replaced and I remember a PM conversation with Pastor Tom last year he too was looking into knee replacement surgery.

I’m probably done working even after getting both knees replaced, Surgeon mentioned I still need to be careful and most likely my current job will still be too much to handle because of the type of job it is. So, I’ll probably just sit it out after both surgeries until I can retire in two years have a little savings to carry me over until then.

Plenty of time for research now winking smiley . That’s one of the many adventures related to our hobby, always enjoyed the research portion and then connecting with property owners. Plus, Feels weird not working, and not able to metal detect until next year.

Thanks David, We’ll keep in touch buddy,
Paul

Good move Denny, plenty of terrain out there surely more settlements based from our research off the Kaweah river. Please post future finds here on this forum, whatever they may be. And, your experiences with the Tarsacci especially what settings are working for you.

See you in the future thumbs down

Thanks Keith,

With this rest period during recovery, is an opportunity to dig into old material search for clues easily missed searching for old settlements. Denny, another friend and I are very fortunate, we have permission to detect three large properties probably 500-800 acres plus combined. Here’s one particular site we never found (Fort), Going over old material I believe we may have missed something that now stands out as the missing piece of puzzle to locating the fort.

I know you’ll find this interesting, a General Patton back in 1851 built a fort a half mile from the first settlement we are detecting. Quite possible this General Patton is a descendant of our WWII General S. Patton. It wouldn’t surprise me, I read General Patton comes from a family of military. This California fort was short lived and we have high hopes eventually we’ll find it, I’m sure we’re close.

Thanks again Keith, Welcome back to the forum thumbs down
Paul
