Best small Gold nugget detector with good playground coin detection performance

Just curious.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a detector thats hot in
Detecting small gold nuggets in iron infested ground with mild to high mineralisation
And will perform well in coin detecting around playgrounds with coin
Detection depth upto 8" or 10"?

Thank you

Joe

Joe, that is kinda a loaded question. To detect small gold, you need a machine that has a high frequency. Most machines with a high frequency do not have anywhere near the depth you want.
There are tons of machines that are good coin shooters. Just based on the units that I have tried, I would say the Vista Gold may meet you needs. It has really good depth and is also a higher operating frequency. The vista units do not have a display so if that is important to you then I would look at other units. Again this is just based on my thoughts and I am sure that there are many units that I have not used.

Is it common to hunt for nuggets in iron infested ground? I thought the main culprit when nugget hunting was high mineralization.

I like the F75SE if EMI allows.

I'm in Victoria, Australia our Goldfields are one of the toughest,
High in mineralisation in many places with a truck load of iron stone
Bits.

Detector was sold and i moved on. Our goldfields was one of the reasons
For the birth of the Minelab PI machines eg 2100, 2200, 3000 and so on.

The fields are only 1.5 hours away and many, many large nuggets were
Removed from our fields including the hand of faith which is now in a Casino
In las vegas somewhere.

Its good fun detecting the small bits had a Tesoro Dingo which was perfect for it
But sold it a while back but only a few were made for our conditions and are
Hard to come by.

Thanks for replying any other suggestions would be appreciatted.

Thanks

Joe

Gold Bug Pro///Teknetics G2 or XP GMP

Thanks guys for the replies.

The gold bug pro/g2 sounds the way to go. Have watched a few

Youtube videos on these machines.

Our detecting ground with good targets is barely 130/150 years

Old so the coins here are about the 6" to 8" depth.

If anyone has any other ideas please keep them coming.

Thanks

Joe
I'm with Tom and Deathray on this one. The GB Pro or Tek G2 will fit your needs fine...especially with the 5" DD coil. I had the G2 with the 5" DD coil and it was a jewelry magnet for me. It did very well for coins too! The larger coils will boost the depth a bit for you.

I have to recommend the g2 over the gbpro due to the comfort/ergonomics of the pistol grip!!!!

my 2 cents ...Vista Gold, with the new smaller coil coming soon.

Possum, I find the vista gold to suck at nuggetshooting...the hotrocks here in the motherload drive it nuts...and there's no way to I'd except by ear, so not too good for coins either. Just my oponion, and only have about 30hours on the vista, but that was all in gold country.

Have done a bit of research.

Love the teknetics G2.

But my gut tells me the Vista Gold which seems be like a good gold
Jewelery hunter.

Anyone use the G2 and Vista Gold

Thanks

I know you need a good gold nugget unit and have no knowledge as all we have are coal nuggets.

As a sidenote I understand the entry level Tesoro Compadre Metal Detector is a heck of a playground unit and will hit gold chains most units won't touch....

Hi Dan,

I actaully own a compadre. Good little detector to throw in the boot
Of the car and escape work during lunch and hit the playground with.

It does not detect deep though.

Best find with it was a gold wedding band.

I use vista gold and gbpro..are you looking to detect nuggets , or jewerly? Either way, my vote is g2/gbpro...if nothing else, the vista build quality is subpar, and if it needs warranty work, it remains to be seen if it will be taken care of. Anyway, like I said above, the vista has problems detecting in hotrock areas (actually all vlf do, but some like the gbpro are easier to distinguish)
G2 for playground and gold hunitng..

It has a nice accurate meter...

it does well on hot rocks ..

DTVG is not a first choice for playgrounds...limited disc no meter for modern trash..

For you playground guys or shallow freshwatrer hunting try this if you own a Tesoro...worked real well with older Tesoro units.....disc. at zero and that bobbi pin or nail will sound ratty but even a real thin gold chain will hit hard....indeed not deepies but many are fairly fresh drops and sure worth a try with a little experimintation...
