ANOTHER 1850s SITE DIG WITH THE DEUS ;-) 12/01/2013

Hey all - been too long (like 2 weeks) since I was able to get out! Was waiting for corn to be cut and then that cold snap hit and put a complete halt on detectin up here in Michigan with lows in the teens/20s and highs in the 20s to around 30. The weather/cold snap let up a bit here over the last few days and rose up to around 40 so I got out to a freshly cut IRON INFESTED field today and scored some good finds :-)

1858 flyin eagle - 1850 seated dime - 1862 Grand Rapids Michigan Store Card - nice crotal bell - horsey shoe and more!

Pictures tell the story!!

HH all,

Wayne
MRH

P.S. - the seated dime read and sounded like complete junk mixed in the iron - the VID read in the 30s but being where I was = I knew better than to pass it over! :-)

Nice flying eagle Wayne..

that's my favorite cent.....

Such a simple yet beautiful coin design...

Longacre was a heck of a designer....I also loved his 2 center...That's a beautiful coin also.

Congrat's

Thanks Keith - I love the design too --- would love to see it come out of the ground on the "silver dollar" they put it on!! lol

My favorite coins/design are the Bust series - I love those more than all others (and anything colonial) - I love to find/collect anything from those time periods (civil war era is a strong 2nd for me)...

Thanks Ray - I believe it's the nicest one I've ever dug as for detail and lack of corrosion/etc. -- usually they're so worn that you can't make out much of anything - that and/or corroded and pitted...

And I too hope for a quick/mild winter here but it's not starting off so good!

I like any of the LIBERTY CAP depicted coins as my favorite U.S. coin...

One of my faves is the Liberty cap on the pole for seated Liberty...

And the mind blower is the Capped Bust...!!!!!!

The Liberty cap has such a strong meaning...Once you really understand it!!

I like the Spanish reale's for foreign coin's when Im lucky enough to find them..

Like the picture of the flying eagle sent lying on the ground in the sunlight.

You can see the light green patina.

Thanks digs_alot

I love seeing that green come outta the ground on those old coins!

If you really look at the pictures --- you can see frost in the dirt (shows in the seated picture best) --- notice how the dirt isn't loose and in piles but more like "chunks" of frozen clumps!?

I had to stomp pretty hard on the old Lesche to penetrate the frozen layer of ground to dig the targets out (in some spots the 1st 3 or 4 inches of ground was frozen) and some of the coins were entombed in the dirt to where I had to bust the dirt apart in chunks to get to the coins... That's how the seated dime was...

SUPER HUNT Wayne., love the dirt pics. I normally do that also. I just like the look of them when you first pop them out.

Your FE came out in pretty good shape. They mostly come out toasted lol at least for me they do.
Is your store token rare?
Congrats on a sweet hunt.

The token isn't really rare -- has a Rarity of R2 --- 1862 Goodrich & Gay Hardware Civil War token Fuld MI370D-2b (2,000–4,999 known)...

1 sold on ebay recently in a bit better cond. for $89
