Gold earring, old silver makeup compact, silver coins and some buttons

Used noise cancel #11, audio gain = 30 with the 18”x15” SEF coil, 13” Ultimate coil, Pro coil, and the Minelab 8” coil. Sensitivity level varied depending on coil.

After several land and beach hunts over the last few weeks, a land site (using the Minelab 8” coil) produced a .54g 10k Tasmanian devil earring (cartoon style).

Another land site produced an old-style 30.8g silver makeup compact with silver chain and ring fob. The compact was several inches deep and securely wedged under thick, intertwining roots of two old trees. It was masked by a large piece of nearby iron. Unfortunately, I severely scratched and dented it while trying to blindly dig/dislodge it from it’s secured location. Both the mirror and it’s copper-like retaining ring are both deteriorating, but the silver is in very good condition.

The beach produced a corroded buffalo nickel, corroded mercury dime, and a 1950 silver quarter.

A newly located land site produced a 1926 standing liberty quarter, a 1925 mercury dime, 1890 and 1906 V-nickels, a buffalo nickel, and some WWI/WWII era army buttons.

Here’s the silver compact, 1950 and 1926 quarters, a corroded mercury dime and a 1925 mercury dime, and the 10k Tasmanian devil earring.

ID = inner diameter (in millimeters)
Procoil auto-sensitivity = 16
Rings air-tested with ring parallel to coil, unless otherwise noted

Here are the coins and a button before cleaning.
A 1926 quarter, a 1950 quarter, a corroded mercury dime, a 1925 mercury dime, 2 buffalo nickels, an 1890 V-nickel, a 1906 V-nickel, and an unknown button.

Here’s the silver compact and buttons before cleaning. The 3 bottom buttons are U.S. Army, the 2 outer buttons are also military, the top center button is unknown.

Here are some after cleaning photos.
The top 2 are of the silver compact.
The 10k gold earring on the left. A 1906 and an 1890 V-nickel on the right.
The compact’s maker’s mark at the bottom left “F&B sterling”, (Foster and Bailey), and the 1926 standing liberty on the bottom right.

The SLQ could not have spent more than a couple of weeks in circulation. Not even a trace of wear on the stars encircling the shield.

Diggs, very nice. What are the two coin like pieces with the 13 stars bunched in the center?

There buttons to a WWII era military uniform.

Here’s a website that has an image of a similar button.

One of the definitions of a 'rare' coin (especially to us detectorists) is: It may be a very high mintage/high volume coin; but, it's exceptional (nearly uncirculated) condition ...... and the Red Book value can be tremendous. For instance ..... your 1926 'S' SLQ values are as follows:

Typical well-circulated worn condition (G-4) is $7.50
(F-12) fine condition is $15.00
(EF-40) extra fine condition is $110.00
(AU-50) about uncirculated is $225.00

Hard to tell from the photo........... but your coin may have been in AU-50 or AU-55 condition before cleaning.
Your coin is not 'rare' in the sense of 'low volume minted' ........... rather.............. it is rare due to the AU 50/AU-55 "rare condition".

Thanks for the information.

It’s difficult to shake the bad habit of “cleaning” the non key date coins.

But a few costly mistakes may help.
