I've got a selection of smashed foil balls that no single frequency VLF detector I've tried can distinguish from coins.
I've even got them separated/sorted by 'coin' denomination.

The tiny little Compass Forum isn't a 'stand-alone' forum.
It's part of a huge forum host called Nabble.com, that hosts thousands of free, ad supported forums.

Which is ironic in that tinypic.com is actually owned and operated by Photobucket.com.

Yes, shipping is quite high...
But if you do end up ordering one, you'll be amazed at how fast they can get it to you from Bulgaria.
About 3 working days on some of my purchases.

Cal,
I think it's more of a dynamic impedance match. You also have to do the reset if/when you change freqs.
If the machine gets noisy, and seems to be drifting with temperatur changes, a quick reset calms it right down.
I've got 2, and it's quickly becoming one of my favorite machines.
In fact, as I type this, I'm charging one up for a hunt tonight.

Really, China doesn't really need to do anything new metallurgically...they already have easy access to coin silver.*

Here's where it sold out of Rochester, England, on April 22...Ebay UK;

Edit:
Also the serial number picture above looks like it's taken from a 17" coil.
The actual CTX serial number is inside the battery compartment.
Since the original auction says the 17" coil was purchased

No, I think that was his big line from Magnum Force.
His big line from Dirty Harry was at the end culminating in "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and would blow your head clean off, you've gotta ask yourself one question: "

Ski,
Of course, you'll want to cover exactly where she thinks she lost it...and indeed it might be exactly where she thinks it is.
But I can't tell you how many times I've found rings nowhere near the 'suspect' area.
Usually accompanied with something like, "Oh, yeah! I completely forgot I went there/did that!"
You may need to coax more of the story out

How old are these "fresh recharged batteries".
Your detector might just be telling you the truth.
Rechargeable slowly die and don't hold the voltage or capacity as when new.
Try it with fresh alkalines, and see how it does.

Hey, Mike...
You know that guy is a member here...and just recently mentioned that item in a post about his signal amp.
(Read his initial post carefully about halfway through...)
You might be able to contact him more quickly here, as the email function at TD has been pretty broke for some time now.

Rain?
I'm not sure I remember what that is...
I think we've had the driest/warmest winter on record.
I'd love to see some rain...just to make the digging easier.

Just gotta say...wasn't expecting to ever see that in a subject title.
Growing up in cow country, I have experienced two different occasions where the normally docile herd kind of all got aggressive at once.
Didn't notice a reason in either case.
In both cases, they crowded me away...and even charged a couple of times to make sure I left.
Maybe one too many fly bites?

I've used a TRX to find small junk about a third or fourth the size of a BB....
I've actually gotten many signals I've chased in the dig pile, then finally given up on...because they're too small to spot/see.
I'll get in in my hand and not be able to spot in, then manage to drop it...find it again and pick it up in a small handful and repeat the process over until it&

Already been done commercially...years ago.
The product you're looking for is the Compass Depth Doubler.
Has a total of 20 rods, and a transformer box to attach the car battery to.
The magazine tests confirmed that it did indeed work, but keep in mind this was from TR days...so might not translate as 'doubling' todays depths.
Google 'compass depth doubler' for mo

A simplified rule of thumb is that higher frequencies air test better but are more adversely affected by the ground.

Taken from the 2016 Codan Annual Report:
(Codan is the parent company of Minelab)
2016 detector sales: 99.2 million dollars...that's up 35.3% from 2015 detector sales of 73.3 million dollars.
I suspect it's the fact that they're actually doing so well that keeps Codan corporate from caring more about us 'little' guys.
That, and as you'll surmise, they'

Firstly, a pulse induction detector doesn't transmit at a 'frequency'...it transmits a pulse, quickly shuts off, receives/'listens', then repeats.
So you could talk about the 'operational frequency' of the pulse train of a PI...but technically not a steady 'frequency transmitted'.
The VLF machines operate in the frequency domain, and the PI machine
