Look like a treasure wise but with a wood handle. My only concern is the one I saw had no hand guard, flare out, or whatever you call it between the handle and blade. It also had some mean looking serrations so I would be afraid of my hand slipping and getting cut.

Does it strike anyone else wrong that the field report was provided by Tesoro instead of a 3rd party and that it merely lists features found on most detectors and a its great statement but no info on what makes it better than the current offering. I would like to know in what ways it is better but seems they are closing the threads about as fast as they appear on the other site. So much for custo

Thanks Dan. I won't be making anymore videos with the boxes as I had to remove them to make way for the wife's garden. I do have a Tesoro Compadre though and while it doesn't get the depth of the Gold Bugs it is more sensitive than a lot of detectors and for someone on a limited budget, it is a nice simple detector that will pick up things many will miss. The mineralization here hu

Looks like there isn't a way to upload pics here. Looks like the other pictures on this thread are hosted at photobucket and then the link is added here.

Smudge,
I just shot a quick video of the sifters I have and will upload it to youtube as soon as it is done rendering. The challenge of buying the right sifter is that I haven't seen them in stores and internet pictures and descriptions can be vague. That's why I bought mine from Tom. He may still have some, just pm him for details.

Tom ordered a bunch in bulk as they can be tricky to find. The bowl is 9" diameter 3.5" deep and looks similar to a pasta strainer. The main difference is that most plastic pasta type strainers are chamfered on the outside or not at all. This bowl is chamfered on the inside. The holes are the same size as the ones on some of the sand toy sifters only there are more holes on the sides as

Update: So I ran the tests again but this time moving the coil with the earring stationary. Depth decreased fairly consistent across the board with most variation probably due to my swing. All-metal on all three metal detectors saw a drop in depth of about 1/4"-3/8". Discrimination mode saw a greater drop in depth of between 5/8" and 3/4". So the Gold Bug 2 coil was still dee

Thanks Tom. I will some tests moving in near future moving the coil. I thought it would be ok to leave them stationary because I saw in a metal detector manufacturing video that the coil was being tested with an oscilloscope with the coil stationary on the work bench and so I thought it would be a good way to remove user swing error and keep a more consistent reading. My bad assumption I guess. A

gman,
I also forgot to include the fact that the despite the depth loss of the GB Pro in disc, the split tone with fast recovery is really nice, imo.

gman, I have now used two of the 11 inch coils and both are more noisy than the 5x10 and 5 inch coils. Some places I can bump the sensitivity up a little more but usually I end up keeping it around 11 o'clock or 12 position. With the 10x5 I can run it max most of the time without much chatter. I can also get closer to the totlot poles with the 5x10. The 11 inch coils detection field or whate

For those that may be interested, I have built another test box specifically for micro-jewelry. This one uses smaller tubes to allow 1/8 inch measurements. T hese measurements can vary slightly due to the 1/16 inch gap between the dowel and the inside of the tubes. The sand is of the variety used locally here in Arizona playgrounds and volleyball courts. It is not clean sugar sand as it has a li

I can't see myself making a living off of detecting. I agree with tmanly that I would like to keep the "fun factor" and not turn it into a job.
