My first silver was a1964 JFK half found in the Cody, Wyoming Elk's park. My journal records it was found March 4, 1973 with a Heathkit that I had assembled over the winter. A rather humble beginning to a lifetime hobby.

I'm still using my Troy Shadow X-5 that I purchased in June of 2004. I would have to say, however, after reading on this forum about the new wonder detectors, I am getting itchy feet.

Finally received my instructions on how to transfer my print sub to the digital sub. I'm kind of a anachronistic Luddite so there was some serious head scratching. After reading the April digital issue and slopping breakfast oatmeal on my bib , I folded up my laptop so I wouldn't spill orange juice on it. The digital format just isn't my cup of tea. I hope they make it and the

Received my March issue of Western & Eastern Treasures in the mail today. Retiring editor Rosemary Anderson said this will be the last print edition-only digital going forward. Of course going to the digital format was made to sound like the second coming of Christ. I smelled a rat a couple of issues ago when Mark Parker vacated his monthly column and last month's issues type was adju

My favorite Tesoro was the Bandito. It's still the detector I let friends use. It might be beep and dig but it's good in iron and very rugged. This is your post and you didn't ask, but---- my worst Tesoro was the Mayan. Its attributes were zero .

I constructed a detector off a schematic in Mechanic Illustrated or Popular Science about 1967. I couldn't get it to work. A few months later I purchased a kit from Heathkit. My first coin was a half dollar under a swing in the park. They had me by then. I mail ordered a Detex BFO discriminator. It was amazing what I found with that machine in those early days.

I am 77 and have been detecting since I built my first detector (that worked), a HeathKit, in 1969. This last Labor Day, I found one of my "Holy Grails", an 1851 sword belt plate, Never give up! I live out West and took my kids to the hills with me. One has a degree in Geology, the other in Archaeology so I like to think I did something right.. As some have alluded to, age can be

Several years ago, I detected a cut large cent. The cut portion is about l/5 of an uncut coin. Only the 18 remains of t he date-the year was clipped off. It was found in Wyoming at a civil war telegraph/stage stop that was manned by the cavalry. Since there was no place to spend the few coins then in circulation, I had always assumed rhe cut coins were used by the soldiers for gambling.
