Nice point on a persons hearing and the effect it has when detecting and choice of detectors that people use. I for one find that I gravitate to or prefer certain detectors due to their audio tones. I have to say some machines I've owned I sold fairly quickly and not that it didn't perform but couldn't become one with it's tones or hear subtle nuances others say they used to d

I always use a wooden paint stirrer and a hammer around the edges of the coil cover, it has worked for me many times without a broken cover yet.

I e-mailed Teknetics about this and posted below is the reply I got from them.
My question: I have read about counterfeit detectors and recently bought a new Teknetics Omega 8000 and afterwords read in various forums and seen in different ads Omegas with red markings/lines in the display and some with black markings/lines. I was wondering if one of these were counterfeit or what the difference

This may have been asked and may be a dumb question but what's the difference if any in the Teknetics Omega's with the black outlines in the display and the red outlines?

It was my first silver for 2011 and I

I know the AT Pro can be noisy especially in amongst the iron but if your willing to listen and patient
it's a good machine, especially at it's price point. So far the AT Pro seems to be one of those detectors
you either love or hate. Garrett had their problems early on with it but the end result is what counts and
I would call it a success for them overall. Good luck with it and ha

Thanks for the info and good reads kept me busy for a bit and impressed me enough I
rounded down a slightly used 1021 CZ-3D, I'm tickled as it look

Very interesting read Aaron and nice to know and a special thanks to Tom for testing it, I'm glad the two of you did this as it should quiet
some of those Ireland vs Malaysia made grumblings.

How does a CZ-70 compare to the CZ-3D, I'm interested in getting one of these two and have been looking at
both detectors for awhile now and seen this post so I decided to throw the CZ-70 out there since I haven't
or read much about it, I figured Tom or someone here could provide the info about the two detectors.
Thanks,

I'll stay out of the sales talk but will chime in on the wife detecting discussion. Mine went with me a long time ago to see
what my addiction was all about, she walked beside me asking questions like did I have something what was I hearing
"I had my headphones on" why did I stop etc. I got a target and made the mistake of giving her the detector and headphones.
I told her the

I would also like to thank Tom and Keith for all their info and testing on the AT Pro, I found the Ground Balance info very helpful and informative
and put it to good use and attribute it to aide the find above as I lowered my initial Ground balance of 81 to 75 and the coin rang out as though
it was only 3-4 inches deep even though reality wise it was at least 9 inches. It wasn't measured

Just pulled this out of a pounded park with the AT Pro, it was a good 9" deep, not measured but half way up the handle on my model 85 Predator tools digger. I was using Pro mode Custom
iron disc at 31, ground balanced at 81 and I manually ran it down to 75. I switched to standard mode custom with iron disc at 31 and got a solid repeatable bell tone was just checking the difference

Different detectors for different people and their hunting habits, it's one reason why you will read about one persons
love of a particular detector while others say they absolutely hated it, there is no singular detector that will please
everyone. It's why most of us try different detectors in that quest for the one detector that works for each one of us
as an individual and what wo

My current E-Trac is a Malaysian made model and have had it a year now and no problems, I've the stories about slow turn around times
from those sending theirs in for repairs but think some of that was due to ML customer service move to Chicago. Not speaking from experience
because as I said I've not had any trouble from mine, but reading about it on the forums, it doesn't excuse

Nice write up Tom, it's much appreciated and thanks for the unbiased testing, like you said in the other thread most of us are performance biased and it's refreshing reading both good and negative aspects of the machines when doing comparisons.

I don't consider myself brand loyal I currently own a Minelab E-Trac, Tesoro DeLeon, Fisher F5 and most recently an Garrett At Pro. I mainly use my E-Trac and love it don't see myself parting with it, but It's a tad heavy and I like trying different machines and a change of pace now and then. I hunt certain areas with certain machines and like certain features on each machine as we

I am one who got a reworked coil because I'm the one who posted my coil wire looks to be pinched or has a slight nick in the coil wire about an inch up from where the coil wire goes into the coil itself, My coil nut that secures the coil cable to the control box also has plier marks on it. Mine also still falses slightly when held in the air and rotated gently with the wrist, but seems stabl

Unfortunately it's happens in all sorts of businesses, quantity over quality, I have worked in my fair share of factories and or assembly lines and every one of them pushed numbers and only stressed quality after an issue was raised. From the automotive industry to paper back books/printing companies and most things in between, it's the number of units that puts the coin in the companie

Good info and thanks for the reply's, I haven't tried another coil I use the stock elliptical concentric coil. Rather than switch coils I have a Tesoro with the 5.75 widescan coil for tight spots and hunting in around fences, boulevards etc.
I live and hunt mainly in central Illinois and wouldn't call the ground hot but will keep a closer eye on it and the erratic behavior and see

Thanks Mike I will save the above notes with my others and try those techniques out, like I said I really like the detector it's my confidence in it due to the EMI, I have never found a spot where I can run the gain much past 65-70 with the threshold at 0 or above. I can run my gain at 75-80 but in order to do so I have to back my threshold down to between -3 to -5. On the flip side I can ba
