Hey Chris. The Cz-3D is a poor airtester. To find the true beauty of this machine you need the dirt matrix and real world senario to make it sing.

Ian, My test showed a high tone on corroded Buff and V nickle.
On another note, and one of great interest to Ian. I did a ground test today with my new CZ-3D. Temps are more mild and I thought if I couldn't dig I'd at least swing and get used to the tones. I like the tones on this machine better than any I've had the chance to use over the years. The high coin tone is not a beep

Actually, it has to do with some type of quiet interference that causes both machines to lose depth. You'll never know it's happening, except for the fact that you'llboth stop finding deep targets, and you may just think there is nothing to be found.
The crux of the story was that Tom was hunting a park with a fellow THer. All of the sudden they stopped finding deep coins. Tom h

Some may know where I'm going with this, and for some it may be of great interest to know.
I will be hunting a site with another CZ user, in fact another CZ3D user. No big deal, right, as long as our units don't cause EMI between the two we'll be fine, maybe not.
I'm sure Tom can fill in my blanks, but these two units should be at least 120 feet from each other while hu

How very interesting. I could read about that kind of stuff all night.
So, is that to say that my CZ3D and the setting specs you listed for me unique to my unit? 4.75 sens max depth, and so on?
I'll give everyone the low-down about my CZ3D performance and finds when I hunt a very historic 1890's site.

I can tell you this. Years ago when we wanted to mess with one of our hunting buddies we would put black sand inside his coil cover. I don't know if beach sand with a beach unit or unit that is compatable with beach hunting would be affected by sand between the coil and cover. They're made to cancel out salt minerals. Sand is abrasive as heck and will wear a coil down quickly, though. Can

Been looking at getting a 5" coil for the CZ3D. I've only seen coils for/ CZ series, which I assume includes the CZ3D? Some Have listed CZ5,6 7 7a 70 CZ20 but not CZ3D.
Enlighten me please.

I received the video today and watched it. Picked up a few good tips. Especially the double beep being a coin on edge. I was surprised at the difference the slow sweeping made with multiple targets. I also liked the real hunting, and your excitement with the finds you made. I never goes away, does it. Also, never thought about taking back up parts, good point.
I'd like to see a vid with m

Yep, I think most new detectors are set up to pick clad.
I'm not much on hunting clad, I like to find the older coins, but I know lots of THers that find a lot and turn it in for good money.
I try to research and pick sites that are likely to hold old coins.
Finding clad these days is like it used to be when I started in the '70's when silver came up like clad does now.

I'm going to set my Vol at just under 5. My sens at 4.5, and my discrim at 0.
I'll go from there and see what happens. I've already read the manual three times and all the info I can about the detector more than once. I have Tom's DVD on the way. I have the right kind of sites lined up, so, we'll see if there's something to see that the DFX didn't pick up.

CZ-3D - 16 years ago
Hello All,
Just registered and am about to get a CZ-3D. I've read bunches of info about the detector, and for the sites I hunt it should a great machine. I plan to cover the ID meter with black tape except where the depth reading is, since I'm used to tones more than a meter that might sway my judgement toward not digging. It's a long story but if you're older and been hun
