Not Loyal - had Whites - Now Minelab - and would not mind a Fisher in my closet. I will add that customer service or the lack of it could make me un loyal to a particular brand. But as far as i can tell most are ok, and some are very good.
If money was no object I would have a lot of different detectors. Variety is the spice of life they say.

In another post someone thought that the new CTX3030 was more of a Xterra on Steriods. I had a different impression from what I read. Most of this is subjective but based on what Minelab has released, but I do not believe I am to far off on what FBS2 is doing. First the person that made an analogy to the Xterra is not all wrong in fact I think they are pretty close. What I think is going on i

I think it is a little more the that. The key is timing. Not a 100% on this but I believe the key is removing all delays and letting the coil do some of the data process more like the Deus then xterra. The benefit is the coil can break the sweep up in many small units of analysis - time domain. The sending that data up to.the main control box for final analysis. The end result is the ability to s

Yes you are kind of right the best civilian GPS can do is about three feet but that is absolute accuracy - lat and long accuracy. Realitive day to day is can be as good as a foot or less - going back to the same point with in 24 hours. Same day same hour it can be as accurate as inches wich is what you need to measure how well you are covering an area. Come back the next day your starting point c

I think many see the GPS function on the new Minelab CTX3030 as a bell and whittle and not of much value. At first my initial impression was a. If yawn. Now after thinking a out it a while I think it may be way more valuable then anyone is giving it credit for. I know a lot about GPS I work for a precision ag company that gold GPS guidance systems to Farmera. I assume that minelab is taking the

If you read what I said the information I was talking about was from Andy himself. He was venting on another forum about how minelab had treated him. I was taking those statements from him. You could tell he felt slighted by how minelab had treated him. He was talking about in part of the thread where he offered to rewrite or add an addendum to the minelab manuals to help

Hello everyone,
I just got one of Andies books for my Safari. It was well written and very informative. One thing I read on line from Andy indicated that contrary to huge contribution to minelab users via his information it appears minelab has kept him at arms length. He was the proverbial redheaded step child. There when it was good for them but never got to set at the table. I do believe he h

That is the real question. Does FBS the second Generation help us find more good targets vs trash. If it does in a significant way then they may have a winner but I still think the speculated price will kill it. I could have three really good detectors for that price!

Ok after a 48 hour wait Minelab releases a small teaser video about there new Detector. Here are my thoughts for anyone who cares to read:
1. The name is a break in tradition most of their consumer detectors have names not letters and numbers. The exception is their high end pulse detectors. In the end if the detector is good the name will make no difference.
2. Looking at the picture it d

Ok, processor trumps this and iron rejection trumps that. I think we should refocus on what is really important in this discussion - understanding how our personal detector(s) respond to iron masking and how we can use that knowledge to get better at finding treasure among trash.

I am not sure about Carrie Underwood, more like Sean Conery. I do get the point, if it was easy it would loose much of the wonder and excitement of treasure hunting. But that being said, it is the way of technology that manufactures will keep improving their products and the job of finding treasure will get incrementally easier.
It is my opinion, that the next major advance in detecting will

Ok now I know that a nail under the sweet spot of my coil will mask a good target that is also under my coil at the same time. Now here is the million dollar question. I am using a Safari that uses minelabs FBS technology. Is there a detector out there that under the same situation will see the nail and the coin but still tell there is a coin. My guess is that an Etrac will do the same as my safa

Masking - 12 years ago
OK I have been hunting and air testing in an effort to learn and improve my trash to treasure ratio. I have been wanting to find a Rusty Nail buried deep in the ground to use later for some Masking Testing. Today was my lucky day since I found one - Yea! Just as a side the find was interesting. I was hunting a trash invested local park - after numerous flattened aluminum cans I decided I n

Have you ever been sitting in front of a deep hole hoping for some treasure but find only trash and still think to your self I love this hobbie?
Have you ever wondered if pull tabs can multiply like rabbits?
Have you ever wondered why everyone else is finding treasure and you are finding trash?
Have you ever thought it would be wonderful to have a detector that could discriminate out all

Thanks,
I have heard the low cost Tesoro - can not remember the model name but no it has a small coil that is hard wired to control box may find them ok to a inch or two. Also like was said a dedicated gold detector even pulse detectors have issues. Just goes to show there is no one best detector for everything. Need a pickup and a Ferrari in the garage.

Tried the wiggle in the real world and can not say I got the same results as in the apartment. Wish I had my backyard back so I could make my test garden. There is an open field next to a park that belongs to the city but us undeveloped Maybe I will make one there. My first find was a small piece of foil 6 inches down the size of a quarter dime. Oh well practice practice and more practice for

Ok just got my Safari so like all good detectorists I had to play with my detector. I did all the standard air testing holding coins in my hand moving back a forth in front of the detector. I also have an elevated dinning platform that has no metal an few enough nails to be able lay coins on it and swing the detector like normal. I had some silver on the floor and was raising the coil to get an

Ok maybe someone can explain why it is so hard to detect a chain. Even the best and most powerful detectors are brought to there knees by chains. Why is this so and is there any detector made that can see a chain at anything more then a very shallow depth.
Curious minds want to know.
Thanks

I think you may be right. I am sure there are some advantages to faster processor but speed is only part of the equation and no matter what it is always going to be slower to process 28 freq over 1 or 2 just physics.

I have long suspected that ground balancing and its modern cousin automatic ground balancing and improper use of the same have left many good finds in the ground even though a detector capable of finding them has been over head a number of times. Some people are lucky and have mild soil forgiving to ground balancing. But even these lucky souls can loose a target at the hands of phase based autot

Darn I just stuck a fork in a Minelab Safari. - It is nice to know a machines history. I wish I was more cash flushed because I think the Safari is not the best gun for all Targets and a CZ may be a great complenting detector to go along with the Safari.
thanks for letting me know

Thanks, looking forward to getting her. She is being shipped snail mail so I have to weight. I know sweeping slower helps the detector deal with trash better and running wide open sounds like the way I may go. I also wonder how does FBS technology do when it comes to masking. I watched Tom's Video and he pointed out how masking hides desired targets. I know some machines are better the other

Well I finally stuck a fork in it and purchased a Different Detector. I had my eye on a couple CZ models and the T2 and F75. After doing my taxes my budget got a bit smaller, but not that bad. It only forced me to look at used and not new. Well after all the looking and searching what did I buy - A Minelab Safari - Ok I know that is somewhat out in left field but here are the reasons I stuck

Funny you say that there is a CZ3d on EBAY that has been through Toms gifted hands not to long ago I will see how high it will go not sure what a good price on a CZ3d should be though. I have found a CZ70 PRO on Craig's List that looks Cherry. I understand those are not bad either. I think the suggestion of two machines sounds like a good idea. Also have my eye on a CZ6 with three coils bu

Ok been looking to get another detector. Just sold my Trusty DFX - I had a love hate relationship with the DFX and Just wanted to try something different and LIGHTER.
Been thinking really hard about Fisher products. The F75 has a great following and is easy to swing from what I heard. The CZ3D and older CZ6 also have a great reputation and are also hip mountable making them also very easy to
