Story starts 2 1/2 yrs ago when I got permission to hunt old homesite built in 1893. Little did I know a confederate Veteran once lived there. First I dug his Reunion Badge 1895 Houston Texas.
Then a while later I dug his Conferedrate Snake Buckle but it was missing one of the Keepers.
To Make a long story short after 2 1/2 yrs of using dozens of different detectors and coils.

Yeah, I hate I hit it too.
I was hunting an old sawmill site with alot of big iron.
I wasn't expecting big silver as I haven't found many coins their.
The workers were paid with Tokens which I have found a few of them.
Ground was hard and I dug like half a dozen merry widow tins that rang high tone and was thinking this was another one of them.
Found a different b

Therover61 nailed it on the head (pardon the pun). You have to use a cz for awhile then you will stop digging nails as they don't sound like a coin.
Coins have a distinct tone. You can make a nail false repeat if you work on it but it's not the same and usually pinpoints off center.
Tom's dvd where he uses a CZ is a great video. I have been using a CZ for over a decade and sti

This is a question for Keith and who ever wants to chime in.
I hunt alot of homesites and sawmills that have alot of Iron.
I'm use to detecting these sites with one tone machine with nails disc. out and not listening to all the iron targets..
I know it's probally better to use a 2 tone machine with grunt for iron but I find it tiring and to much for my brain to decifer listening to a

I have been relic hunting lately with an X-3 and I know what you mean,
The modulated audio is nice for telling deep targets. I don't use the coin check toggle much because I'm basically digging everything above 3 and change on the disc. Man that thing will find the smallest things, but you know there small when you dig them.
