I believe the 6-8" range is about right in my soil. I do believe there are a lot more coins beyond the depth of detection than in that range though. When I first started this hobby 35 years ago most of the old coins I found were in the 6" range back then so how much deeper would they be now after 35 years? I've hunted too many old yards that have never been hunted before and come u

The new detectors are great but I miss the detectors that you could make all the adjustments just by turning knobs. Having to go through a menu to make adjustments can be a pain. Its funny because most of the best DSLR cameras feature more adjustments you can make externally without scrolling through a menu.

That's strange. You would think the tone would be able to id just as deep as the meter IDs

I dug out an old Quantum XT I never used much. Cleaned it up and did a little air testing with it. I set it up so it would accept everything but only give the high tone on coins. It seems to do the opposite of what other machines I've used do. That is the meter seems more accurate than using the tone ID. I lose the high tone after 4 or 5 inches but it will still give the low tone down to abo

I'm curious how well the old maps match up to the newer ones when you overlay or just compare. I find some of the old maps not that accurate even to the point of showing old churches on the wrong side of the road.

The machines must be worth whatever they charge or there wouldn't be so many sold. Its not like they have a corner on the metal detector market.

Maybe I shouldn't be over guessing myself using TT ferrous with my etrac. I've found a lot of good finds using it in spots with a lot of iron but I did a nail board test today I read about online. Well with my 5" excelerator coil I could get no positive signal in tt ferrous. When I switched to Andy Sabischs' coin program I got a positive signal in all directions. I'm won

Ahhh but have those sidewalks sunk or has the surrounding sod built up higher over the years from the grass being cut and decomposing?

I've always been of the opinion that coins do not sink that much but become deep because of vegetation decaying over the top of them year after year. I have noticed that the few wooded areas I hunt that don't have much undergrowth the coins aren't near as deep as in grassy areas that are cut frequently.

I have found just the opposite in my case with the etrac. I hunt mostly old homes that have quite a bit of iron. I hunt 90% of the time in TTF. With your screen opened up you don't get all the
