I think the ideal is that in 'all metal', you will detect targets that are out of the range (depth wise) than if you were hunting in disc. You won't be able to tell what it is other than it's 'metal', but at least you found something most detectorist wouldn't have found while using 'disc'. ...and it might be something good. Some people will take a b

Some good finds there Seeker. Where on the East coast are you? I've just simi retired and think about moving to a coastal area. Probably NC or SC. I worry about all the flat land (I've lived in the Appalachian mountains all my life) and swamps and mosquitos :-) When I look at maps of the coastal areas of the eastern US, it seems there is a lot of flat swampy areas around. I think what I'm hoping for is the ability to hear and distinguish the different types of metal better than a CZ. The CZ gives 3 or 4 tones, depending upon which model you have, but they are fixed tones. From what I'm reading (Clive Clynicks books) is that the Excalibur has the ability to give many different tones, depending upon the metal (or metals), the shape and how much the metal i

I'm comtemplating picking up a good used Excalibur ll w/10" coil for my beach hunting. I live several hours away from the ocean and so I don't get to go there often, but when I do, I'd like a very capable detector. I'll be on the East coast, North and South Carolinas and dry/wet sand and waist deep water. What I would like is some input from those here that have the Exca

Thanks. I've never notice that while sending a PM. It should be automatic, or maybe have a place to check if you wanted it on all the time.

Why am I not seeing any messages in my "sent messages" ? Does it not work the way I think it does... which would be... if I send a PM to some one, and would like to review what I said later, that I could click on the "sent messages" and it would show me all the messages that I had sent that had not been deleted?
What am I missing here?

Thanks guys. I ordered a few. Will probably be looking for a good Excalibur ll pretty soon. When did the latest version of this unit become available?

Does anyone here have a good handle on what would be one of the better books on the Excalibur ll detector? I am seeing Clive James Clynick books around and he seems to have several on the Excalibur, just not sure which one would be the better, or if another author has anything out that's good. I seem to remember someone by the name of Andy that might have something out like this also.

Thanks guys. I assumed the button worked like it does on my CZ3D. It makes since that it would be a "push on", "Push off" button since it would be used in diving conditions. You wouldn't want to have to hold the PP button in while floating around in the water.
So according to flbowhunter, the CZ21 will not pinpoint as deep as it will detect, thus reverse discrimina

Has anyone installed a waterproof trigger switch to the CZ-21 to keep it in PP mode instead of holding down the PP button? I've heard of people searching with the 21 holding down the PP button and can only assume that they do that when reverse discriminating. Seems it could become tiring on the old thumb this way, so why not install a trigger switch?
I can see that you could just put

Congradulation on the find. Hope you and your friend have a ball hunting togather. ...but be very careful when hunting at night, especially in this heat. I have experienced poisonous snakes out during the nights as it's cooler and many are nocturnal to begin with. I would advise a good bright headlight and a watchful eye! Ha! You're right TerraDigger. "Image" search. Missed that. Tried it and sure enough, there they were. ...and some really strange stuff on down the list :-)
Received an email back from "Oldusmaps". Looks like they run 2 bucks per map via email and each map covers about 5 blocks. He will ship them on CD for 5 dollars extra.

HI tfo pana il:
If this is to be your first detector, your choices might be a bit overkill. All of the three you mentioned seem to be great detectors, but from my readings, all of them will require you to spend a lot of time to learn them well. It's easy to get discouraged with a detector that's designed with a lot of power and choices. I tried a Fisher F5 after using several dete

Well, I don't know what I was doing wrong. You must have some gee-whizz search engine :-) I've contacted oldusmaps and will see what they have for me. It would be nice if there were such maps for county's as well as cities. There were many old school houses in Carter Co. back in the olden days and it would be nice to locate them. Fellows, my hat is off to both of you. I was beginning to think that these type of maps were figments of peoples imagination :-) I did read somewhere that the company that owns these maps asks $5000 per year for libraries to access them, which leaves out most libraries in small towns. Don't know if that's true, but if it is that would explain why very few places have them.

Just how in Gods name does one find the Sanborn maps on the internet say ... for Tennessee, Carter County, Elizabethton? I have searched many times for these maps and they are always behind closed doors of some University, locked beyond reach of us commoners of the internet unless you just happen to work at said university or be a student there. What would one expect to see going from the stock CZ3D coil to a 5" coil? I hear that it is very good on the F75. How much depth loss would be normal between the coils say if the CZ3D would air test a dime at 12"? Should this be about the same for a CZ6a?
Tks...

Well Kevin, if you hadn't just corrected yourself and made this post, I would not have known that running the iron disc up would reduce the AT's ability to detect deeper, so I appreciate it. Now I wonder if my readings are correct in my post :-) I ran the AT in Pro mode and zero, but I didn't look closely to see if the iron disc was in use or not.
Still, 11 inch dime is noth

Finally got to play around with the AT Pro again tonight. Went out for a quick 30-45 min in a near field before dark. No coins but did find what looked to be an alien charm off of a bracelet and a large buckle. The buckle must have come off of some tackle for farm horses as it's quite big. It got dark and cold, so I came in for some more testing...
My soil ground balances at 80-81. I h

TerraDigger: The soil here in the far northeast Tennessee must be more organic than Daniel TN's. I'm in the Appalachain mountains, and more precisely in a valley between two of the mountain ridges which would be the Holston Mountain and Iron Mountain. I received an AT Pro from Bart at Big Boy Hobbies today. Bart had great prices and was extreamly fast in shipping. Always kept in touch with me while waiting to get some new ones in.
But about the AT Pro... I must have gotten a real hot one! I was not able to use it outside but for a few minutes before the granddaddy of storms showed up. So I came inside and played :-) Don't know if

I emailed Bart at Big Boys Hobbies and he responded within minutes with a very good price. He was out of the pro pointer and headphone adapter, so I'll try another place for those.

UNIT HAS BEEN SOLD. THANKS ALL THAT WAS INTERESTED.
I have a nice clean Fisher F5 that I would like to sell or would trade it plus some $$ for a clean Garrett AT Pro. Would rather have the 5X8 in. coil on the Pro, but will concider the standard coil also. I have used the F5 mostly in my yard and one trip to Myrtle Beach year before last. Not sure if I have the Manual, but I'll look

What are the concensus about these two detectors? Anyone have them both? Would like to hear about how they compare. The AT Pro is water proof to 10'. I don't think the Goldbug is. How do they work on ocean beachs? Are the sounds better on one than the other as far as distinguishing targets?
Any help appreciated.
