Best avoids harmonics, EMI, and other detector interference?
I'm just happy there *is* a low frequency. We old coin hunters seem to have been forgotten lately with the frenzy over mid-high freq de

I sure hope they get it right. There's a lot of people pulling for them. Starting with the MXT platform and updating from there to create the MX Sport, was a great call by White's. They're on the right track. And owning up to the firmware glitch on the new Sport, admitting it existed and then implementing a fix right away, is a big positive for White's.
Now if they co

Tom, my sentiments exactly. Like you, and many others who have posted here, I am a die-hard White's loyalist. Their fantastic customer service certainly kept me hanging on much longer than justified, which I will be forever appreciative of, but you're right, they just haven't kept up with the times. I bought several of their top of the line models all through the 80's and 9

Agree. Now they are just wringing out the last little bit of performance from the basic VLF concept. Technology grew by leaps and bounds in the 70's-90's, but then has pretty much totally leveled o

I read all the comments before I watched the video and was expecting the worst. After watching the video, I don't think it half bad at all. The tones are a bit Atari-like but who cares if the performance is there. I did notice two things that are big positives: the recovery and processor speed seems excellent. And, very important, it does seem like Whites preserved the mixed mode audio, w

Interesting thread. I, too, wish White's would focus some effort on making evolutionary changes to some of the time=proven designs they already have. VLF tech has pretty much gone as far as it will go, so now they should circle back on some of their best designs and really tweak them to get the very best performance out of them. The three White's models that come to mind are the IDX,

Yes, that would have been nice. Those keypads might be cheaper and more reliable, but it doesn't agree too well with the arthritis in my thumb. At least, according to the manual, it will be toggle on/off so you don't have to hold it the whole time you are in pinpoint.

Yes, and the MXT was very good on batteries, very efficient actually. According the MX Sport manual, 8 AA batteries are good for 40 hours ... just the same as on the old MXT. As deadlift

I'm starting to get my hopes back up that it is in fact a "real" MXT. Looking more closely at the manual, there are little clues it might actually have the guts of an MXT inside. Of course the frequency is the same, but also things like 40 hours on a set of 8 AA batteries, salt track mode, prospecting mode with SAT, for example.
And I really like the ground balance impleme

Sweet. Thanks. I was looking for the tabs associated with the application but couldn't find the, at first. You'd think as a ham radio ope

A lot of guys have made many suggestions on this forum and elsewhere on ways to improve the MXT. Manual ground balance option, a more informative display, plus a modern lighter housing, come to mind. Dual frequency would be a dream come true, but I'm not going to hold my breath for that one. Hopefully White's has been listening and incorporates at least a few of the most often voiced

Makes even more sense now why White's just discontinued the MXT non-Pro.
The tried-and-true MXT is such a great detector, that even with just some overdue evolutionary changes, the MX Sport should succeed. That thing would be sweet for prospecting in and around streams up here in Idaho. My only hope is that they keep the prospecting mode and maybe make a few other tweaks/improvements

I'm rootin' for White's too. They may not be able to devote the resources to developing a whole new machine right now. But what they can do, is improve upon some of their existing designs. That will keep them in the game a little longer while they decide what to do in the long term.
Plus, I think there are several really good ways to refresh a couple of their designs. I co

Real interesting. Thanks for the replies. I would hope that they'd be better now too, but didn't know about the cheaper components issue. No matter how carefully calibrated, if the components were cheaper or didn't "match" then there's only so much Tom can do.

Everybody seems to take it as conventional wisdom that the best CZ-5D's were the ones made by Fisher back in their Los Banos days, 1021 serial numbers, and to avoid the later ones.
But Dave J recently joined in a lively discussion over at treasurenet where he basically admitted Fisher was making crap for awhile but now they have their act back together and the new CZ3D's coming out
