re: QuoteNASA-Tom this is exactly 'why' the coil MUST be COMPLETELY STILL......whilst performing any form of Noise Cancel.
Related to the importance of NC I wonder is there an optimum height to lift and hold the coil before noise canceling?
This may seem obvious to some but for four years I have been watching others keep it on the ground, hoisting it waist high, aiming the coil to

EXCELLENT!
Very helpful, very relative to beach hunting. Any wild guesses on salt beach relic hunting (old ship’s artifacts from iron and brass spikes, bronze items, musket balls up to worn Spanish silver reales)?
You know how some reales are worn razor thin or have a brown tarnish almost rust like look depending on the part of the beach found.
A 1/2 reale can ring up at 15 in my experien

Thank you Tom,,
Always worth the wait, you are so busy I appreciate it!
RE: Depth indicator of 5 chevrons, is the depth per chevron semi log scale similar to the 1”, 3”, 5”, 7”, 9” of old?

the ear failures that start where the plastic flow rejoins around the pin that produces the hole.
I always tghought this the problem. Cold flow as the plastic oozes up and around that area.

Question on Manticore, Florida Beach, headphones
I have hearing loss; aftermarket (wireless and wired) headphones for NOX 800 include very good insulation and active noise cancelling that virtually eliminate the sounds of crashing surf. Resulting in better clarity of tones.
I have learned aftermarket wireless headphones cannot be used with Manticore.
How is the Manticore hea

Clive,
I have all your NOX books and have read them repeatedly. There are so many things to try in the search of managing the NOX the best, it can be overwhelming. I have taken to taking a ‘system improvement’ from the texts and going to where I detect and perform some testing. This has helped.
For instance just the idea of a sound that is not ‘bitty’ and instead rounded, peaked and more so

@NASA-TOM
This has been asked before on other detectors so might as well get it out of the way.
Does any Minelab SMF or SMF+ truly process all OEM listed frequencies simultaneously? Are they all fired into the ground at once, shotgun like and then the detector process what is ‘reflected’?
Seems many say it is either sequential or only several at once.
Not sure if it matters but always

Reminds me when I used to be a young fireghter, an old chief was teaching history. Someone asked why standard (at the time) fire hose size was 2-1/2 inches diameter?
Bottom line: Firehose in the 1800s was leather, 2-1/2 inches gave the most efficient use of a cow hide.

Manticore field test by Prospector Paul
“Only Manticore in North America” (at time of filming I guess)
Brings up a couple questions, vid mentions GB as tracking or manual. Is there still an automatic ground balance?
In the video, with the three targets close together, there did not seem to be any coil edge detection like the NOX (at least in beach mode which I use 90% of the time)

Thank you Tom. I understand better now that you explain it.
BTW: Using the settings I refer to above and had gleaned from this thread I have found that good targets pop through the sometimes slightly chatty falsing.
Very happy with these settings at the beach.
Found a Gucci bracelet with a heart shaped charm a couple days ago at the beach and that signal broke through very clearly.

Great discussion and thank you for replying to all the questions. I read back over the last almost two years since this began and have implemented what I will call the 2x2 TRR and FE2 settings with SENS 23 or more if possible. This thread is becoming a very helpful primer on the workings and tuning of the EQX!
(My question is at the bottom after all the context).

Tom, hope those racing slicks are shipping by next year, I am ready for an upgrade…

Searched for this before posting.
Seems over and over the common coil size is around 11 inches.
Wondering if there are any technical limitations or sweet spot reasons?
