TeraDigger: I'd be happy to try out the wet beach and report depth results.
In Tom's testing I was astounded to read that VDI went down with depth. My dry sand experience is just the opposite..and while I never hunted the wet enough to verify I just assumed the same results would occur there too.
On my wet sand for GB I used the pumping method and got a GB of about 2 or so the hal

Tried it in both 4K and 18K Hz...
4K: VDI single= ~83, VDI four= ~89
18K: VDI single= ~93m VDI four = ~98
Seems to be adding.

The WET SAND program is good. I generally have the GB down around 2 to 4. Therer is a lot of falsing but they are clearly falses and the REAL signals come out super evident. I don't go into the water at all and just do the wet sand. The Deus really shines (but is probably overkill) in the dry sand. I've dug some of the whisper signals down to 18"+ but they have never (yet) been any

I tested out my Deus on a handful of gold rings...from 2g to almost 9g. The 18K Hz is the best overall depth and tone response ...with the smaller rings showing VDI's of about 45 and the larger ones about hi 60's to low 70's.
Using a modified DRY SAND program I hit a Wopper Gold ring on the beach on Easter afternoon. Not terribly deep at about 5" but a really nice strong si

That's a beautiful example of reactivity in action.
It hit home to me in a very positive way when I went detecting the fire pits on a close by beach. The fire pits are located a hundred or so feet apart and the area loaded with nails. I followed behind the footprints of a fellow detectorists...it's easy to tell as the footprints circle around each fire pit...and I was picking up quar

I posted this on LowBoys "Jury" post too:
I got this info from another Deus user and it was truly AMAZING.
In hunting the littered parks that have thousands of crown caps (beer caps) using the 4K or 8K hertz frequencies gives the quarter/silver signals VDI's of mid 80's while the crown caps come in at mid 90's. I used the 4K and was astounded at the coinage/goodies

Since my found nugget is about 1/20 of a gram ... I bought a 1/3 gram nugget off of eBay to check my Deus. At home (under the power lines) it gave an accurate (steady) VDI at 1.5" and a good signal significantly farther. The EMI was disturbing the audio enough where I couldn't get an accurate distance.
If anyone in the Los Angeles/Orange county area has a $1 coin I'd be glad to

Actually the Deus has been out 2 years now...and I've had mine 14 months in California, I'm not a good judge or reviewer though since I'm a relative newbie,
And as far as photos..I posted my 2 Deus found Gold rings on 2 days there (and also on this forum), Nobody notice?
Should you buy one? Heck no...

"I'm curious as others have told me what you said about the ID cutting out on deeper targets. At what depth do you see that happening and what is your ground like where you observe this?
Thx,
Albert"
I've done a short test with 3 silver quarters at 4", 6", 8". No problems with the 4" and 6" ... solid VDI (mid 80's). The 8" showed 95+.

I've had my Deus for 14 months now...and in the beginning I must admit I was struggling. Coming from the mid level detector, the Fisher F-4, the Deus was a wild ride. I was picking up every tiny piece of foil on the beach and the sounds through the earphones sounded like chicken squawks. I eventually remedied that with upping the discrimination.
Disappointing was the lack of an accurate V

It's the 'ol greener grass syndrome. Except ... when we get over there, over the fence, it's different...it's kinda uncomfortable...it's got it's own little faults too.
My philosophy is to learn the machine WELL..with my BH 3300 it took about 3 weeks. With the F-4 ..maybe 4 months. With the Surfmaster PI...about 9 months.
With my current love.. The XP Deus it&

Great set of tests!
Do you have the weight of the stud? I have a 0.3 gram gold nugget that I purchased to verify my XP Deus.
When I go detecting I always carry a small sack of verification targets: 2 small gold rings, a medium gold ring, a medium silver ring and assortment of silver coins.

I've had my Deus for just about 14 months now...and it's definitely true LOVE! I've been meaning to post this..and perhaps this thread is appropriate.
I finally ran a rough depth test at the beach a few days ago using silver quarters. I buried one each at 4", 6" and 8" deep. I was able to max out the sensitivity at 99 and ran it at 4K Hz. The VDI was great for th

Hi,
I've had my Deus for about a year now and I'm extremely pleased with it's performance. It comes with a super light 9" coil and I've also purchased the 13"X11" larger coil. Each coil in effect is another metal detector.
What I like: The detector is super light and amazingly ergonomical. My intention is for it to be my travel detector. It is amazingly ve

Great Video Lo-Boy! Thanks for posting it.
It's pretty obvious the passion you have for detecting.
As you rest and recover channel some of that passion towards getting yourself well and back out there detecting again! We are ALL Pulling for you Bud!

Southern California ... mostly Long Beach and Seal Beach.
I'm hoping to bring my XP Deus to Europe soon and would love to try out Germany, Czech Republic and my original birth country of Lithuania.
BTW, Does anyone watch DiggingNorway on Youtube. He is quite passionate about detecting and makes some good videos giving you a European prospective.

Hey Bob...it's a kit built PI detector. I've just spent a half hour chasing details of the construction on various MD sites. It looks very interesting and a fellow is selling a circuit board and parts from the UK.

Thanks! I'm glad you posted that.
It reminded me of my foster father, my great aunt's husband who raised me. He always did the right thing and was completely outspoken. Whenever I'm in a difficult situation I think of him and what to do always becomes obvious.

GOOD question.
I've been thinking of doing something for my PI. I scrub the coil on the wet sand and even though the pressure is light it will have a sandpaper result.
My thinking is to use a few coats of regular outdoor primer paint in white and then a few coats of something else in a darker color. When the white shows up again it's time to re-apply.
Mt question is: what would

Hi, Not really an expert but I do have a perspective that goes back 40 years.
I got turned on to metal detectors in 1970 during a visit to Hawaii and watching a detectorist do Waikiki Beach. I bought and put together a Heathkit metal detector. What I remember is that it took some unusual batteries...something like $10 worth in 1970 money and not easy to find. [ Between 1970 and 2007 I was Rip

My buddy showed me his older Surfmaster PI about 3 years ago. I remember it was instant LOVE! My buddy had no intention of selling but when he saw my reaction he told me the next day that it was for sale. I Coinstarred my coins and bought it. And the love affair has never diminished...only gotten deeper with time.
There is, of course, one strong negative and that is the insensitivity to small

A coincidence to see this comment here.
I'm swinging an XP Deus at the beach... and today I was especially struck by how I can always tell a nickle from a pulltab even though both have similar VDI's. The only thing that would explain it is the density difference. I've also noticed that I am getting much better at recognizing foil signals. They are sharp but "tinny" an

From what I understand they can't keep with the demand in the UK for that full price.
Only a handful were sold in the U.S. directly from the factory for the "wholesale": price. I also bought the larger coil directly from the factory a number of months ago.
I'm very pleased with my purchase and feel lucky to get in at a better price BUT if I had to pay full price today..I

Welcome to the Deus, Mrwillburino.
I've had mine since Late December and it certainly does have a learning curve. Some of that comes from the sensitivity and multi-variables and trying to run it wide open. I'm coming from an F-4 and the XP Deus is my first top level detector.
My happiness level increased significantly when I turned down the sensitivity and disc'd out to abou

I'm not familiar with the Fisher Impulse..but 9" air test doesn't sound bad. How does it do with thin small gold (like small earrings)?
Mr Bill does mods on the White's PI's (I'm going to get one) to make them more sensitive to small gold. You might want to email him to seer if he does the Impulse also.
He's retired but still does the mods...as I just got
