Amen
I would ponder too say the attrition rate for newbies is 100 to 1 at least.
The hunting analogy is spot on,it has to be a passion, not an occasional hobby.
I like fishing but I can't hook up the boat at anytime, metal detecting I can hit my own yard at midnight if the fever hits me.

right! sidewalk easements in the correct locations i.e.: (old)
can be very productive,AND MOST hunters over look them!
try 'em out!..you may be pleasantly surprised!.use a small coil to get between the junk!

funny i been looking' over my shoulder for a long a** time!
sometimes i make it,sometimes i don't,get it if ya can,(in particular,PRIVATE property)
but consider OTHER options on "public" property if ya don't!.,however,i do agree with you
in general,MAKE the effort to get "permission",IF possible!

right! using a "shovel" in a public park is tantamount to shooting yourself in the head!
one would ask,WHY would one want to do that? perception is everything!

i tend to agree,HOWEVER,in my view,..RISKY!..i prefer to take a pass on that!
again ,as mentioned, drawing attention to oneself while performing this hobby in a public place
is,i feel "verboten" to be totally honest,i have to state for the record, that there have been numerous occasions
where i have truly wanted to crawl under a very large rock to avoid attention, and NOT because i was doing anything wrong,
but because after more than 36 years detecting,i STILL feel that no matter where jam hunting,i am about to be" ratted
on!..still,i manage to persist,and i ain't gonna quit! ..i'm just sayin'

you are right ozzie,he is absolutely correct as it pertains to "private properties!"
that's a whole other issue, and he's exactly correct in all that he stated!

more hunters will need to use very discrete walking stick machines as its all closing down .makers will need to adapt or go out of business
