Fisher CZ 70 Pro - Is It Worth Anything?
April 01, 2016 08:59PM
I recently met a guy while I was out metal detecting and he has a Fisher CZ 70 Pro that he wants to sell or trade for something simpler to use. He bought it and never could figure out how to use it. It looks brand new. I want to know what a fair price would be for one and is it a good detector. It seems to be in good working order.

I took some pictures of it while I was at his house.

Very little, ill give you $50.00 plus pay postage. Arm cuff shows no wear and with case and all paperwork it should be worth $350.00 plus

Looks super nice. Not sure what he would want to use that's simpler. That unit is pretty darn simple to set up and very versatile.

I don't think he's into metal detecting. He bought it years ago at a pawn shop and never learned how to use it. I think that he's really wanting to sell it. I like trying new detectors, but I don't want to buy one that I can't get my money back if I decide that it's not for me.

What are first 3 serial numbers?
The 112s can be run hotter sometimes.

I had a cherry, only used a 3-4 times CZ70, Nasa Tom tuned and certified to hit a dime at 12" and I sold it to a guy in SoCal for $550 shipped. It was about as new as you could find short of being new in the box.

Coming from a CZ nut indeed a good unit however.....I understand Fisher will no longer work on them due to a lack of parts...Older analog units they will as the CZ3D is still made and they have the parts...unfortunately they no longer make any digital versions....Agree with therover as can't get much simpler than a CZ and imagine he wants to sell...

Thanks for all the help. Another question. The icon with the 'star/$' where does it fall on the conductivity scale? The icons across the top of the screen seem to be out of order from what I'm used to. I've been reading the manual and the percentage of gold rings that fall in 'star/$' conductivity sparked some interest.

That is the higher conductor "square tab" range.......... where a lot of older coins, tokens, $5 Half Eagle gold coins, many Indian Head cents.............. and many more targets register. On the home-page of this web-site...... is a article specifically on the CZ-70. You can find it in the "Fisher Intelligence" pdf. Large explanation of the evolution/concept/inception of the CZ-70.

Well I bought it and I couldn't be happier with it. The first 3 numbers of the serial numbers are 112. At full sensitivity and at full volume it runs super quiet. No EMI or ground chatter. I need to do more testing, but I'm pretty certain it's as deep or deeper than my F75DST in the DE mode. It grounds balances in my soil at the preset mark and the VDI is spot on. The 4 audio tones are nice to have. With the 8 inch search coil it doesn't seem all that heavy. I can see why people would like this detector. The way it handles EMI is promising for me, because I hunt a lot of areas that have super high EMI. Thanks everyone for your help and advice!smileys with beer

I haven't actually measured when I was testing it out in the yard on some coins thrown out on the ground, but I'm pretty sure mine will easily hit a dime at 12 inches in a air test.
On my 6 inch buried dime I was able to swing the search coil around 4 to 5 inches above the ground and still get a correct VDI and clean high audio tone.
I really like the 8 inch search coil, it's a good around size for the sites that I detect. I might get a smaller one. Also this is a first for me to use a dual frequency detector.

The 5" is a great investment for a CZ.... It really opens up a trashy area. On my CZs the 8" coil is as deep as the 11" coil, just doesn't have as much coverage (or the weight)...
