Have Garrett oldstyle pinpointer the dk. brown not the newer yellow one. Keeps vibrating when turned on...anyone know a quick fix..A shame they can't make one that lasts...
Out of warranty and been to Garret several times and just not worth bucks to replace...

They did a complete restoration on mine for $20. They make them to last, but they're not digging tools as many use them for...

They charge a flat fee about 50 bucks and usually send you a new one..Been there done that and back to square one after a few hunts..Have to agree still some 20 year old garrett detectors still going strong but they missed the boat with the pinpointer . Certainly don't misuse mine but have sent 3 in so far????

I have two that I've been using for 5 years.
Sent one in when it was 23 months old and all it cost me was shipping for a rebuild.
I had a similar issue once but it turned out to be a bad "new" battery.

The carrot stick one has been having a lot of failures for water leaking. I hunted today with a guy that had it happen to him while we were hunting.

Where's the leak point? The button? Can you say at what approximate depth the leaks are occurring? This is the first I've heard of it.

Champ -- Barely under the water...maybe knee deep at most. It is something to do with pushing the on/off button under water. One of my friends on YouTube just did a video on it about 2-3 weeks ago when his crapped out. He showed what it does when it goes bad and he mentions in the video that someone else he knows had the same thing happen to them. It is about the 7:00 mark in this video:

First and foremost not knocking Garrett as its warranty and service after the sale is certainly one of the best in the hobby. Seems like some of their pinpointers like the watch take a licken and keep on ticken while some are trouble prone...so much so actually 6 or more videos on troubleshooting on the net so its a reality and not a figment of my imagination. In any case being without one leaves one without an important tool. After sitting for two days my unit is working fine again and hope I have no more problems.
Why it malfunctioned don't have a prayer and lets move on. Perhaps one of our tech orientated members could offer their opinion in case another forum member has a problem.

Thanks for the info Daniel. I'll be careful with mine to minimize the chances of that occurring to me.

I agree. Mine went back under warranty & was repaired. Quit a few months later, out of warranty, & they quoted $50 , to repair. I gave up on it !

As addendum try a different battery or your battery connections as can cause various problems....

Rubbish -->> as previously proven - they are NOT reliable at all and many many customers have experienced the very same issues as OP has described - NOT caused by detectorists using a pointer as a Lesche but a manufacturing issue that should have been fixed on the production line -

I am sure Garretts two newer Pointers are the duck nuts however after experiencing two GPP's crapping themselves after being babied, I wont look at another Garrett Pointer -

Rustic Charm glad someone had he bells(may have spelled that wrong) to call it as it is....my feelings are some of the runs were defective which led to problems and other runs ran forever. In any case hope you all got a good runs as many did not. when working correctly an excellent detecting tool and used more than one pinpointer over the last 25 years. I sure hope the new yellow one is an improvement...

The pro-pointer colors referred to are black and orange.

Not sure if you are color blind or maybe you have bought counterfeits?
