El Nino weather here in Northern California has limited hunts, but the storm tidal currents may have seeded the low tide zone with some good targets.

At the beach’s low tide zone, pulled out a small gold ring with a break in the back. Has a very tiny hallmark, and looks like it’s been out there for a while. Gold acid tests to a solid 14k, but has a 9k/10k density of 9.69g/cm3.

Back in the rocky area during the low tide, a 5 meter square area produced a pair of silver Audi rings, which I can’t seem to find on the internet. Also produced a buffalo nickel and a 191? Mercury dime. The next hunt at that location, I lost my bearings and hunted the wrong patch. Got a 01-38 signal by a big rock. Turned out to be an 1887 Morgan dollar in good condition.

Recently, got in a 4 day hunt during the extreme low tides. 1st day, got a silver ring with elephants around the perimeter, a 1945 corroded mercury dime, buffalo nickel, and a possible 2-cent piece (extremely corroded). The 2nd day, a 10k gold Nike pendant. The 3rd day was pitiful, not even a corroded wheat penny. But on the 4th day, went to the area that produced an 1859 half dollar and quarter in the past (in very good condition). The first keeper was a strange-looking lump of lead, so I thought. The second was a very heavy Champion 6-Lever lock (over a half pound). The next good target was an 1875 seated liberty half dollar. The tides were kind. Also got part of a pocket watch.

Above are the gold and silver jewelry finds. The earring and the small silver turquoise ring were found at parks, the rest from the same beach.

Air-tested with:
11 coil
Auto-sensitivity = 16
Noise Cancel #11
ID = inner diameter (in millimeters)
Rings air-tested with ring parallel to coil, unless otherwise noted

carat ID grams depth FE-CO max depth description
14k 17.5 1.26 2" 12-02 3" thin gold ring with break in back
10k ---- 1.95 4" 12-04 7" Nike pendant

Above are some before and after cleaning photos. The gold ring has a very tiny hallmark, as seen on the upper right photo.

The Audi rings look like they’ve been out there for a while. Can’t seem to find these rings on the internet for dating. The orange-corroded silver ring didn’t clean as well as the elephant ring.
The bracelet on the right is labeled 14k at 2 locations, but is not gold.

The top 2 rows are the before and after cleaning photos of the 1887 Morgan silver dollar and the 1875 seated half dollar.

The last several hunts has produced my second or third finds of coins and jewelry.
This is my 2nd seated half dollar find. The first was an 1859. Also my 2nd Nike gold pendant. And got a pair of silver Audi rings a few meters apart on the same day. Perhaps his and her rings. The possible 2-cent piece find would be my second also, but will require time consuming cleaning to confirm that it is a 2-cent piece.

The top row shows my 3 Morgan dollar finds. The top 2 are 1891 and 1885 Morgans. Both were found a few weeks apart, and a few meters apart, back in 2010. The pitted one on the left looked almost as good as the one on the right, but had a smooth patina. Here are the results after severe over-cleaning. A painful learning experience.
The lower left photo are 3 corroded buffalo nickels, a corroded 1943 war nickel, and a 1943 Australian penny (a park find).
The last photo is of a potato-chip shaped 1899 “V” nickel, 1-1916, 2-191?, 1-192?, 1-1945, 1-1960, silver dimes.

The last photo group is the other stuff. I was surprised that a ½ lb bronze lock could wash into the low tide zone. I hunt this site periodically to see what has washed in from deeper water. The lock and 1875 seated half were nice surprises. Also found the pocket watch part at the lower left.

That is from what part of Calif...I live up in the gold country of Calif. But also lived in Marin County and for years would find a lot of gold and silver at schools and parks and tons of clad. But now its all about the history of the 1800s.

Thanks all.
I hunt around the San Francisco peninsula area, but never tried North Bay or East Bay sites.

Silver dollars and seated half dollars seem pretty rare in parks nowadays. It appears that Detectorists in the past have done a pretty good job of cleaning out the easy pickings.
