I have a modified Tesoro Amigo II that I built for my grandson when he was just starting out detecting with me when he was 4 yrs old. We had a lot of fun together finding coins in the yard and in the park. He is now going on 9 and is beginning to use a Garrett Ace 250. This unit does have a hardwired 7" coil on it...works well and is very clean. It would make a nice starting out unit for any small child. Total length of the unit is fixed (for now) at 36".
