Detech 13" ultimate coil

Any of you fellows that use this coil ever have a problem with ground balancing. On several occasions while using this coil I can't get it to ground balance. It always does fine when I first start a hunt but after a while it just want do it. Ground balance stays on 90 which is default on my machine and the ground is clean as a whistle. I had this issue again yesterday. Took the detector back to the truck and got my other machine with the stock coil and used it the rest of the day. Got back to the truck a few hours later tried ground balancing it again and it worked fine. Things were pretty damp due to all the rain we've had lately. Maybe it's moisture collecting under the coil cover. It's not the tightest fit. If that's the case I'll just take it off. But I've read that this coil has to have the coil cover. Is this true. Really like the ultimate and would hate to part with it.

Bill it sounds like you have a faulty one, But you did not say what machine you are using it on.

Thanks John,
I'm using it on my T2s. And it does it on both machines. No problems with my other coils. This is my 2nd ultimate, a replacement for my last one that did the same thing. It seems when it gets in moisture after a while it won't ground balance. It's like your trying to balance over a piece of sheet metal. Just strange that I would get two with the same issue

Bill I am thinking maybe in your ground you can't run the Gain too high with that Coil, Because it sounds like it could be over loading the GB systems, I have seen this happen back In OZ when I tried to run my machine to high, Switching out helped a lot or just lowering the gain did the same thing, Don't be afraid to drop the gain because you will be surprized how little depth you will loose compared to "In Ground Depth".

Give that ago Bill and let us know what happens,

Good luck.

John.
