Rereading the initial post, I'm wondering what information are certain talented folks not volunteering? I've certainly gotten a lot of good information from many here over the years, but still awaiting GPS coordinates to favorite hotspots...winking smiley

well this is bad news for the forum & me .......

no idea whats the guts is but intercourse them tnss

don't listen to the spacing between the lines in your posts as it makes it a lot easier to read

as for the pats on your back saying that you deserve a good break, I could not agree more

as long as its a break as YOU David are one of the special gems in this hobby that go out of your way to pass on accurate information regarding equipment & findings, so with you gone we will all be stuck listening to the hypsters talking up their favorite brands all over again

you are an appreciated resource mate - NZ

Totally agree that the line spacing makes it easier to read.

Only on the internet can a farewell address turn into a dirt cake recipe request. I had never had one either until I met my wife. She introduced me to them. She only makes them on special occasions though and or social events. It is one of those chilled cakes; must be served chilled.

It's telling that the standard sized packet of Oreo's in the USA is 36 cookies, nearly 1 lb (454 grams) in weight (hence those recipes using 1 lb of cookies), whereas here in the U.K, the standard pack is 14 cookies, weighing 154 grams, one third the size.

We still have an obesity problem, though, there's nothing stopping people buying 5 packs apart from their guilt......

OK, I'll get a real debate going here...

Hydroxes were better. So much better. I really miss the Hydrox. The filling was so good and the chocolate wafers were crispier. Oreo filling tastes like the nasty hydrogenated fat it is.

I prefer Chateau de Neuf Pape--------It doesn't mess up the taste of my cheeseburger.

We have mini's, and a modest selection of different flavours in standard size, mint, peanut butter, strawberry, vanilla, chocolate. But no low-fat, no thin, no double etc.
Update: Yes, we do have the double-stuff variety, only 11 cookies per pack, and "New" thins are stocked by one supermarket.
They are very much late-comers to the British biscuit/cookie shelves, so they only have a small share of the market. And it's likely to remain that way, British consumers view them as a bit sickly, over-sweet. We don't like your sweets/candy much either, there's not much Hersheys stuff in the stores. But I understand British products don't sell well over the pond, except to ex-pats and tourists, so I guess it's just a 'taste' thing.
You may have read stories a couple of years ago about Hersheys vs. UK brand Cadbury. Hersheys have the right to make their 'own versions' of Cadbury products, and got upset when US retailers imported the real thing.

Average cookie box/bag up here Canada is about 300-350 grams, packages got smaller for the same amount of money charged last year for the larger packages.

DeepTech Vista X with 3 search coils.
Works for me

I'm not much on eating Oreo's myself...not by themselves. I can only eat them if I have a glass of milk to drown out the taste. But I like them in the dirt cake. I'm the same way with peanut butter; not a big fan of it. My wife can eat it directly out of the container on a spoon. I can only eat it if it is used to make something else; like peanut butter fudge or something similar. My wife is the same with a tomato. She can't eat them sliced up or out of the garden but will eat ketchup, salsa, etc. That's neat how we can have our little quirks like that.

Sven: The retail industry shrinking package sizes, whilst disguising the fact and keeping prices unchanged is called "shrinkflation".
And it's been going on here for a number of years. What was a 'standard' weight for something is now a multitude of smaller sizes. Jams/preserves/marmalade etc were nearly always 454 gram / 1 lb jars. Now, there's 325gm, 375 gm, 425 gm. Breakfast cereals that were always 500gm boxes are 425gm, 475gm.

Pimento is one of my favorite posters---always has the best in trivia and scientific stuff.
One of my favorite things is to grocery shop---mainly to get the best deals and to see how they are hiding their latest scam. One of walmart's ,who I now despise, favorite scams is to charge More per oz for the larger size.

If you think they are just shrinking stuff, then go ask yourself this question.

Why does everything taste better in a restaurant, dinner, café??

Well go buy yourself a packet of biscuits in the local supermarket and go buy the large size packaging in the store catering for the restaurants, dinners, cafés.
Taste one next to the other and.... then the light comes ON!

As Keith says a "Proper" detector,... well there is something like "proper" food as well :-)

The Pillsbury Doughboy Obituary
The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma complications
from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71,
Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin.
Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Butterworth,
Hungry Jack, the California Raisins,
Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch.
The grave site was piled high with flours.
Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described Doughboy as a man who never
knew how much he was kneaded.
Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He
was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on schemes.
Doughboy is survived by his wife Play Dough, three children, John Dough, Jane Dough,
and Dill Dough. Plus they had one in the oven,
He is also survived by his elderly father, Pop Tart.
The funeral was held at 3: 50 for about 20 minutes.drinking smiley
