For the first time ever, I agree with you Des. On that Bill Ladd video, there was a guy who had "a new secret detector" from Garrett. It doesn't look anything like the AT MAX. So I hope you are right.

False flag operation...never don't believe what you see. The show some decoy sometimes. This is part of big companies strategy.It could be true... but...

I was collect the money to buy new ATP. I don't buy it. For this price you can choose better.

I'm not arguing about what is the better or more innovative detector.

But I think maybe you're confusing this forum with the total metal detecting market .

Garrett is a marketing machine. They have taken the lead when it comes to promoting product to a wide audience in the 21st century market. I'd bet they sell many more than the Deus and Impact put together.

I've always felt the AT Pro could use more transmit power, An inch of additional depth would be an acceptable increase for me. I'll stay cautiously optimistic and make a decision in several months after reports from trusted beta testers.

Looks like AT coils will work..

I would have to disagree with your statement the impact and the deus offer more features and the deus is used I believe in England more than the AT Pro or Gold..I had a gold and really like it but I feel the dues and the impact are better and have the different freq and that is a big help for relic hunting

Even though not groundbreaking by any means it looks like a nice upgrade to the AT series. Personally I'm not an ATP fan after my 1st one leaked and fried out plus I like other machines out there far more for my style of hunting so I'll be sitting this one out while waiting for something a little more futuristic/advanced to surface. I feel completely confident that I have all dirt fishing bases covered for the time being with my 3 main units (ctx, Deus, Impact) AND for water hunting with the Excalibur ll, plus, I have a couple play around units for when I get bored/wanna play with something else.

How the new Garrett performs remains to be seen but you can't argue with their success. I sell more Garrett detectors, pinpointers and accessories than the next 3 companies combined. You have to remember that performance takes a back seat to promoting your product which, at this time, they do better than anybody. For example, the Impact is one of the best detectors available on the market but 99.9 % of the American consumer has no idea who Nokta is while a large segment are familiar with Garrett Metal Detectors. I agree. This is what I preach time and again that certain companies choose money over true advancements in the field.

I think they built in my wish list into the MAX. Just the simple things like larger numbers and back light were my 2 biggest gripes. Now they added a true all metal mode and up the transmit power to boot! Not to mention all the other stuff.... It's still simple enough for me to figure out. Plus it's dust proof, rain proof and waterproof. Most of the other newcomers can't swim and that's important to me. Another thing I like is Garrett didn't show it with the MXSport dogging it. Nor did they say it would put the pretty little french thing to shame. They just stated the features for us to sort out. I personally like what I see!

Sounds like it's faster then the pro. Very tight Closely resembles the F75 ? Freq shifts, tightness,13khz Should be a very good machine Garrett has i winner I bet and priced good with free wireless headphones

In the United States, it is a shared approach, one of a good product and a good return on the product while with European and Turkish companies, they are more concerned about the performance perspective of their detectors. It is sad but some companies rely on past decades of name recognition to sell their products while little known companies eat away slowly at their bottom line. Garrett is doing well and will continue to do so as they have good products and support them and their dealers 100%. In the coming years, reverse engineering a competitor's machine and then tweaking and re-boxing will not work. New innovation will be a must, i.e, discriminating PI detector, selectable freqs from 4 khz - 80 khz in 2 khz increments, bluetooth component sharing much like the XP Deus, total display management via software menu, etc ... anyway. sorry to ramble.. I would have to think the reason garrett sells well is because it sells to big box stores.
But the minute people find out that the treasure just doesn't keep flowing from the ground they are resold.

GreenMeanie, you are right.. big box stores, Amazon, Walmart, lots of others are almost to the point of pushing the small dealer out of business... the "mom and pop" stores are almost a thing of the past.. sad but true... Richard

I would hate to have bought an AT Pro or AT Gold in the past year. Fortunately, I didn't, so I have no complaints about the AT Max. I hope it's a good one! We all benefit from good ones.
Might trade my AT Pro in on one for the right deal.
For the time being, I'll be swinging my Impact and watching what Max users have to say.

The AT Pro is #24 - way ahead of any other top end detector - you have to go up to #61 to find the next one, the F75.
