They have addressed the small screen....I think. I like what I see, though. Regarding using an Excalibur in fresh water hunting......the AT will run circles around it in the gold sensitivity department.

I will not support a company that supports the "Diggers", KG and ringy dingy suck.

Garrett is probably the most popular detector brand out there right now due to marketing. I think it's not so much to do with the big box stores as it is they put all their ducks in a row with TV and the internet audiences. Love them or hate them...the Diggers show on TV put a big spot light on Garrett and the AT Pro. We wont get into the discussion of whether they were good or bad for the hobby...so one thing we all agree on is that the show got a lot of attention for Garrett metal detectors. Then add the YouTube explosion to the mix. You have heavy hitter channels like Hoover Boys, AquaChigger, Nugget Noggin, Relic Recoverist, etc all using Garrett products....all those people have thousands of subscribers and followers. It's no wonder that if you are on a forum or social media metal detecting groups and someone asks the question "which detector do you recommend..." that 8 out of 10 people are going to say Garrett AT Pro. They have came in like a roaring lion and that's not going to fade away any time soon. Not when every Wednesday, the Hoover Boys are posting new videos of them killing it with those machines...and mind you, their coins don't look to be salted to sell units either. winking smiley

I will probably eventually have one of the new units just to play with and try out. I never have liked the AT Pro/Gold housing. For me it was always tough swapping coils out...there's not much wiggle room under there. Sometimes you have to hold your tongue just right and stand on your head to get the pins aligned just right. That's one area I wish they would have changed instead of utilizing the same basic housing. .

Aha! Maybe this is the reason they sell so many AT machines. A detector for every coil!

CONUNDRUM
On the 'Z Lynk', I already have a set and love it. But I have a conundrum?
I like to use the "Clear Sound Easy Stow" headphones that were supplied with the Ace 400 simply because they can 'flatten out' and drape around the 'collar bone holes' so the sound is facing UP
But, if I do that and attach the Z Lynk box to the stem of the MAX, will there be a clash? Is the wired in Z Lynk 'On' all the time or only when the New WS3 phones are turned ON?"

Rick always has some interesting stats/info. Thanks.

I had an ATP for a couple of years and it was a decent machine, very good in iron

Here's a short video I did when I first got my ATP rehunting an old spot I'd cleaned out with my F75 LTD and a friend with his Etrac:

No iron audio or adjustable tone break? Not sure I'd buy a machine that doesn't offer that, but it does look like a nice upgrade to an already popular machine. Garrett is to detectors what CIsco is to networking, and nobody ever got fired for buying Cisco >grinning smiley<

Cal,

That's an amazing coincidence video cos I too had hit a spot 'hard'
and with the ATP found a mix of ferrous and non from a small few sq ft.
A crotal bell and a small 4" silver spoon came up years ago and that spot still delivers!
I'll probably head there directly soon as a MAX drops thru my letter box!

I certainly wouldn't mind testing the ATM out, but now that I just dropped $1K on an Impact, I don't see the need to buy the ATM smoking smiley

Go into just about any hobby shop and you'll see a Garrett detector on the shelf...even the 2500's let alone the 250's.

If you mean top 5 in sales, you are sorely mistaken. The AT outsells the Deus and Nokta put together. You can throw in the Impact, too.

Hombre,I agree with you about Diggers, and it's been debated to death since it first (dis) graced the airwaves several years back so I'm not going there again.

Fortunately, I owned an AT Pro before that moronic show began. Otherwise I might not have bought one either.

That would have been my loss. No detector is perfect, but I really like the AT Pro.

I guarantee for every one person who doesn't buy a Garrett because of Diggers, there are dozens and dozens if not hundreds who do buy a Garrett because of Diggers.

I would also bet that, in hindsight, there isn't a detector manufacturer who doesn't wish they had paid for that Diggers product placement.

And if there were manufacturers who turned the producers down before Garrett accepted, you better believe they are kicking themselves now.

bigboar, many of us are looking forward to hearing honest reports from respected early users like yourself.

Don't hold back. Good or bad, give us all your findings. Your opinions are highly valued here.

It should be a good detector. The one thing they needed to change, was where the coil plugs in, or make a short cable to make it easier to change coils.

Des I beleive the receiver will pair with the transmitter in the MAX as its simply a Zlynk transmitter built in. Alternatively, you could use your current transmitter on another detector with the provided MS-3 headphones(receiver built in). They are really expanding zlynk parts and options this summer. Stand alone Receivers and Transmitters. Receivers with AT headphone jacks. More adapter cables etc. As long as you have a Tx and Rx in some form you will work.

This sounds really good.. I was hoping to use the wireless system with all of my detectors.. With the new headphones having it built in makes it nice
