Tom D.........Confidence meter question on T2

In a older post regarding discerning junk signals from good ones....."Tom - Falsing tones - One more time on this subject please".... you wrote:

These are all good answers. And it seems like you are answering your own question. Multiple inputs on one 'questionable' target will help determine; dig/no-dig.

1. Upon initial lock-on to a target.....find where it sounds at its best (fore-to-aft). This will be from 'X' direction.
2. Then rotate your body around this 'best sounding' spot and find out where it sounds at its best, this will be your 'Y' direction. You will now have the best X and Y pinnacle.
3. Glance at the Confidence bargraph.
4. You can raise the coil ..... and lower the coil....for yet another data input.

My question regards #4. Is raising & lowering the coil done while sweeping the target, or is it a stationary up & down bobbing of the coil? Also, how does the confidence meter on the T2 respond if it is a junk target?

Thank you

#4...............Raise the coil whilst sweeping.

The Conf bar-graph does not know if the target is a good target or a bad target. What it DOES tell you is..........how accurate it feels the ID numbers are.......for what ever the target is. It may be a piece of chewed-up aluminum soda can (aka = can slaw).........and if the detector is confident that it is ID'ing the CONDUCTIVITY of the target properly.....it'll give a high Conf reading on the bar-graph.

smiling smiley Does the Conf bar, lets say, on the F75, behave with iron in a similar (but not exactly same) manner as the White's XLT/Spectrum. Where a bar graph smear pattern is created when iron is detected?

What ever the conductivity of the metal (ferrous or non-ferrous).......if the unit is very confident with the VDI/ID of the target........the Conf bar will be high. Signal strength has a lot to do with the Conf bar-graph. If the signal strength is strong...... the detector will have a higher Conf reading. A deep target will present a low Conf reading.....regardless of target conductivity.
